I have ADD. Granted, it’s self-diagnosed ADD, but my mom agrees with me. So it must be true, right? Like a song writer who wakes up in the middle of the night to write down song lyrics, I have ideas swirling in my head day and night. A blessing AND a curse. I start in on something, and if my husband waits too long to help me with one little element of it, I’m moving on to another project.
Unfortunately, it leaves me with what I’m about to show you. A bunch of projects that are…well, unfinished. Wanna see my “new” laundry room? Pedestals are done, but the beauty of the room isn’t even close.
How ‘bout a boot bench I’m building (the term building being used very loosely here).
Would you believe me if I told you the only thing keeping me from the guestroom reveal is making the bed and getting a piece of glass cut for a little table? You’ve seen all these pictures—of course you believe me.
The guestroom closet? Done. I need to paint ONE more shelf, and I just can’t get myself to do it. So this is what you’re left with.
The most done project is this little nugget. We purchased some new furniture (more on the dilemma in this room soon), but it’s not quite ready for the reveal. Shocker, I know.
So that’s what you’re left with. A bunch of sneak peeks of unfinished projects. So stuff is happening around JaG’s house. Just too much stuff. And yet…not enough stuff. Ya know what I’m sayin’?
Omg i so could write this EXACT same post! I have soooo many alllmost finished projects- my husband gets SO grustrated with me! Thanks for letting me know that i’m not the only one 🙂
Omg, same here! Most of them revolve around unfinished window treatments, paint jobs, or just tidying up. I have guests coming over in a few hours and house is absolute disaster!
guilty. blah. my hubby deemed it “O.S.S”…as in “Oh, Something Shiny!” syndrome. LOL. Halfway through one project then I’m on to the next!!
{your sneak peeks DO look amazing!}
I wrote this post about two weeks ago…entitled, “Working on my PHD’s”…which, in my case, stands for Projects Half Done! You’re not alone! xo
i see you JAG, i have a lot of unfinished projects too…it’s either i get too busy taking care of my 2 young kids and a full-time job and a husband, yeah my husband keeps me busy 🙂 he likes to enjoy the outdoor while the weather is still nice… OR i was not able to purchase the stuff that i need to make the project happen….
so don’t feel alone 🙂

I have a case of the “in betweens” too, but sadly I do not have a husband keeping me from finishing, it is ALL me and my ADD. I had a little table I painted turquiose two years ago with the intention of painting a design on top. It was finally done YESTERDAY, saw something online, taped it off and painted. So simple, why can’t I do that more often?
You are So not alone in this… our home is full of half-started, half-finished and almost-begun-but-not-quite projects… not so many Finished Things though!
I’m with you. I’ve got a partially done kitchen, hallway, son’s room, family room, and the list goes on. Your sneak peaks are enough to keep me coming back. The little bit I can see looks pretty amazing.
I think I’m your opposite. I won’t start a new project until I finish the original, lol. It’s not as nice as it sounds. I have decorating ADD, so I’m always freaking out over something to do, but my mind just won’t let me move on. They call that over-focused ADD.
TIP: Order your projects from the ones that you want/need finished first, and then start working on them. Then set a rule for yourself that you can’t add one until you finish one. You can keep your ideas in a notebook that way you won’t miss out, but you won’t feel so overwhelmed either. HTH!
This is exactly the ADD I have too! only mine involves sewing projects and building projects….basically any project…thus leaving way more undone.
Yes I’m always one project short of l makeover, one card short of a full deck and missing a few screws…not to mention marbles these days. But then I have a few years on you.
I DO know what you are saying because this is the story of my life! 🙂 The other problem I find with my unfinished projects is that I start to change direction of my original plan…then that puts me at another standstill of indecision. Should I go w/original plan or move on to the latest and greatest plan I’ve got swirling around in my head? Ugh! And the more I read blogs and pin, it puts even more ideas and options into this little head of mine! AHHHHHHHHHHH. glad to know I’m not the only one.
I laughed out loud at the painter’s tape outline of your boot bench. Ha Ha. I so understand you girl. I’m going to do that in my house – just do outlines of things I want in painter’s tape. “And this is my grand piano – I haven’t gotten it yet, but it’s going to go right here….”
Boy, can I relate to this! There are so many unfinished projects & rooms in my house, that I’ve already remodeled them in my head a few times since we started. So glad I’m not alone.
checkout http://www.flylady.com —you can do ANYTHING 15 mins. at a time. It works-it really really does! Get a timer, set it -you’ll stay on track and be amazed at what you can get done in that little bit of time! I am the exact same way-lots of unfinished-but when I use the timer…then you get pumped at WOW—look—that didn’t take long at all…and you’re off and running —and often don’t want to stop—just 15 more minutes and so many projects later-Flylady warns about this, too! She’s in our psyches (sp?!) Blessings Sharon
Oh, thank goodness! That is all. xo
Totally looks like my house. A lot of U.F.O.’s (unfinished objects). I could do my own post. You are not alone, girl!
I am right there with you. I love getting started on projects and seeing the initial results, but by the time I need to finish tying up loose ends, I am over it. We have a fireplace remodel that is currently waiting for me to finish the touch up paint. It has been waiting for a week and a half, and will probably keep waiting a little while longer.
We do have people coming to the house for a first birthday party though, so that will light the fire to get everything finished! 😉 Showing off the house in person always creates the urgency I need to finish a project.
I was reading your post and couldn’t believe how identical we are, I get my best ideas when I am laying in bed trying to will myself to sleep. I also move onto a new project when the husband puts my project on the back burner, and I also have a million projects to reveal but can’t b/c of 1 simple detail that prevents me from it. I am glad you posted this b/c I have been so close to revealing despite the project from being complete–but always change my mind. lol.
I could have written this post! My goal before the end of the year is to get them all done…
I think I bought it from you — too many thing going, then left in a pile !
Congrat’s , you have company !
As I gaze upon the piles of paper waiting to go back on the shelves after moving furniture, the half-finished pallet wall art piece, the painted frames waiting to go up on the wall and the door about to turn memo board looking more like a junk pile – I can totally relate! Thank goodness it’s not just me LOL So many ideas – so little time {and energy!}
Thank you! I definitely feel the ADD, and I’m thankful for other kindred spirits. I hate painting the trim in the rooms. Most of my walls are ready to be repainted before I finish the trim 🙁 lol
Oh, good. I’m not the only one. 🙂
Yes…..I totally understand…..I just keep putting things off….and then I change my mind midway. Crikey.
This is SOOOO me! I have way too many unfinished projects and all I can think of is another project I want to start 🙂 Need to just set aside a few weeks or a month to just complete projects and blog about them 🙂
