Girl’s Room Resource

by Chris on February 29, 2012

Hey, all. At first I didn’t know if this post would be warranted, but I’ve received so many e-mails. It just seems like the best way to answer all of them. A quick post, but chuck full of information!

blue and pink girls room

  • Daybed–purchased here. I got it with the trundle, and it came with a free mattress for it. Perfect for sleepovers.
  • Duvet—Serena and Lily (Anabel Duvet) Worth every single penny.
  • Curtains—Ikea Aina They’re a pink linen, and I love them!
  • Rug—purchased here. It’s a 5×8
  • Wall color—Benjamin Moore’s Iced Green
  • Tree mural—I painted it. You can see my tutorial here. I still can’t find the original source for where I got the image, but I DID find the vinyl of it on Etsy. If you’d like to buy it, you can go here!

This is such an adorable room. I can’t imagine any little girl not loving it!

This room has a great look. The bed and tree on the wall have the feel of a great reading nook.

Thank you for this inspiration! You were my blog fav of the week! I adore the tree wall art you created!

I cannot even tell you how many times I’ve looked at this picture. My daughter had to have it. Duvet arrived today. Not cheap but beautiful. Paint is on the walls. And since my daughter has a queen size bed i was concerned i wouldnt see enough of the rug so i ordered a zebra print bench for under her window instead. Curtains are next. Youve inspired a total home makeover. Thanks so much

That’s awesome, Laura! I’d love to see a picture when you’re all finished! As for the curtains, they might be a tiny bit darker in the picture just because of the lighting. However, I just went and looked at the post again. They’re pretty darn close. :) Good luck!

Laura May 16, 2012 at 12:33 am

Whoops… One question… Are the curtains darker in your photo?

Rachel June 15, 2012 at 7:48 pm

I am also redoing my daughter’s room because of your picture!! We have the duvet and we just moved into our new house so i am going to get ready to paint. I am also about to order the Aina Ikea curtains and the pink linen in the picture looks like a very light pale pink and in your picture they look more coral. I just want to make sure that they are the same curtains you have and that Aina didn’t used to have a different pink option. I love the way they look in your picture! Thanks! When I am done I will post a picture on pinterest under Rachel Cardona

Chris June 16, 2012 at 12:07 am

Those are the ones we have, Rachel. I would agree that they are more pink in reality. I imagine the contrast in the photos make it appear darker. They’re still gorgeous, however! :) Can’t wait to see how everything turns out!

Rachel June 16, 2012 at 9:14 am

Thanks! I will let you know when I have a picture up. You should do a post about all the copy cat rooms with pictures I bet you have hundreds of people making there daughter’s room like yours!

Great room! I have been looking for a daybed for our toddler and I was wondering if you’re happy with the one your purchased from DayBeds.com (Hayneedle)? I’ve purchased furniture items from them before and have mixed feelings. Thanks!

Chris June 26, 2012 at 4:10 pm

Ooh, I’m glad you asked. I’ve never purchased anything other than the bed, so I didn’t know there might be mixed reviews. I will tell you this–I love the bed!!! It’s been absolute perfection, and I would buy another one if needed. :) I hope that helps!

Jamie June 28, 2012 at 8:26 am

Hi There, I love this room! I’m wondering where you got the toss pillows.

Chris June 29, 2012 at 2:45 pm

Hi Jamie, the white ones are just plain shams I had in other rooms. The two blue ones are just filler pillows from Ikea, and the pink one I made. Hope that helps!

Chauntae August 24, 2012 at 5:53 pm

Hello, how did you make the pink pillow? I’d love to do one for my daughters room, which we are redoing to mimic your daughters room now. We love it! Thank you!

Madison July 30, 2012 at 8:37 pm

Hey! Wondering if you ordered the duvet insert from the same site as the duvet?

Chris July 30, 2012 at 9:54 pm

I didn’t, Madison. I order ALL of my down comforters from Overstock. They have the best prices, shipping, etc. I’ve never been disappointed!

Madison July 31, 2012 at 12:56 am

Ok great! I was hoping you didn’t because it was a bit pricey. So, any regular king size down comforter will work?

Joanna August 15, 2012 at 8:51 am

I love the room! Do you remember where you bought the chandelier? Thanks!!

Chris August 17, 2012 at 2:37 pm

I found it at our local grocery store (Meijer) about two years ago. It was on clearance for $20. :)

Bryan August 29, 2012 at 12:30 am

Hi Chris, I ordered the same Annabel duvet for my daughter and have been trying to determine a paint color for her room. I like the color Serena & Lilly has matched up with the duvet, but it’s similar to the color in my wife’s and my room. So as I searched for a different color, I found your page and really love what you did with your daughters room. So my question is, how do you feel the Benjamin Moore’s Iced Green goes with the Serena & Lilly Annabel duvet? Would you still choose the same paint color, if not, what would you do differently? Thanks!

Chris August 29, 2012 at 9:08 pm

Hi Bryan, While I never held the duvet right to the wall, I would ABSOLUTELY paint it this color again. They match pretty wonderfully. I love Ben Moore paint, and this color is just gorgeous. Good luck with your decision! I hope I could help!

Traci September 6, 2012 at 10:24 pm

This is beautiful. We are about to purchase a new home and my 5 year old (and myself) LOVE this room. I love it becuase of the color of the walls and curtains. When I went to look at the link for the curtains they are much lighter than in your picture. My question is, since the curtains are lighter and not as coral.. is the duvet lighter in person also? How about the pink color. In the picture it looks more blue than the named color of ice green (I know paint colors and names don’t always match though)

(I am linking your site from my blog when I post about redoing her room)

Chris September 6, 2012 at 10:36 pm

While I think most colors are accurate, the curtains do appear darker (perhaps because of the window lighting?). They’re not exactly a light pink, however. I really love them!! Good luck with the room!

Lucy September 26, 2012 at 9:45 am

Hi Chris… Thank you for your inspiration!!! I clicked on the etsy link, but it states that
it no longer exists :(…. I’m so disillusioned… We’ve been working on our home since December bc it was a fixer uppper. We are finally painting the upstairs, still no floors, so that we can stop sleeping on air mattresses and put the kids in rooms… I was sooo motivated with this tree, lol…
and now it says they don’t have it… Any ideas you can give me of what to do? THANK YOU! I love your work!!!

Marcia November 2, 2012 at 3:44 pm

Hi Lucy! I also looked on the etsy and did not find it, but i found another page, do you still need it???

Holly November 30, 2012 at 11:32 am

This tree is perfect for my daughters room! Where did you end up finding the image?

Chris December 11, 2012 at 7:39 pm

I guess I’m not sure what you need, Holly. I already put that information in the post. Perhaps you missed it?

Kristen December 8, 2012 at 7:37 am

Marcia, I ran into the same problem! Where did you find the tree?

Chris December 11, 2012 at 7:40 pm

Kristen, I explained that in the post. Did you read the link I provided?

Kristen December 11, 2012 at 8:24 pm

The link to etsy didn’t work and I don’t have the time our talent to attempt painting it myself! I’m doing this room as a nursery for my daughter that us due in three weeks! Any other suggestions for where to find it. One of the posts, from Marcia said she found it somewhere else but I couldn’t see any place mentioned or linked in her comment…

Marcia November 2, 2012 at 3:42 pm

Hello! I loooove this room, I’m actually trying to copy the idea for my baby girl’s room! (Just the walls and the tree) But i’m a little sad because i did not notice that you gave the walls color name and my room turn a little blueish, not this Aqua Green color… My husband don’t want to pay again for a new color, do you think would look ok for a girl??? Or will look a boy’s room??? Thanksss

Emma December 12, 2012 at 4:21 am

i love love love this room, we are currently building our first house and i cannot wait to decorate my girls rooms, i decided i will do this room, but who for! my 1 year old *but still in cot for now) or my 5year old!
the others had trouble with the tree because the etsy link does not work.

Linda December 14, 2012 at 5:01 pm

FYI, Serena & Lilly has a 25% off coupon code right now. (GIFTFORYOU). I think it runs through 12/17!
