Thanksgiving Table

November 29, 2011 by Chris

I had a wonderful Thanksgiving filled with family and food. And then? An abscessed tooth. I’ve been writhing in pain for the past couple of days, and I am now scheduled for a root canal tomorrow. Told you I wanted dentures!

Since I’m hopped up on some Vicodin right now, I thought I’d better get something out to you.  As of 10:43am on Thanksgiving morning, I had nothing planned for our table. Eeeks! Talk about being forced to use what you have, eh?

I went in my basement and found a tablecloth and napkins that I bought in Italy 10 years ago. And I’ve never used it. Not even making that up. Crazy, I know.

Then I found these blue plates that I purchased on clearance this summer. I knew they’d come in handy at some point! I paired them up with some plain white dishes I had, and it was starting to come together.

Still shopping the house, I used some scrap fabric I had left over from the tablecloth curtains I made. They’re supposed to turn into pillows at some point, but my procrastination finally worked out for me!

A wooden bowl filled with some candles finished it off for the centerpiece. I’m not a fan of buffet-style dinner (if I can help it), so I didn’t worry about it. We filled the table with food as soon as the guests arrived.

So what am I thankful for after all this?

  1. Dental insurance
  2. Vicodin
  3. My need to hold onto things for years before I get rid of them

Love the blue plates and table cloth. And I oh-so-don’t-envy-you with the dentist issue. I’m terrified of the dentist… and yes, vicodin rocks! Hope you’ll be feeling some relief soon!

So sorry to hear about the pain – Yay for vicodin! The table looks great! I tend to hold on to things for a really long time, too. It makes shopping the house fun. Thanks for sharing.

Hope you are better with your tooth. I love reading your blog, so many cool ideas. I feel your pain, after having a bad tooth pulled, they ended up having to do 2 root canals to the teeth on either side, at the same time! Bring your ipod when they are working on you, it is so much easier when you can relax with good music. Good Luck.
