To be little again…

July 1, 2008 by Chris

Why am I posting this? Because I sewed a sham for my daughter’s bedroom, and I think I hate it. Well, I actually love the sham, but I bought too big of a European pillow. RAR!! All that time, all those nerves, and it looks weird. I need your help. How do I fix it? Do I add things around it to make it look less…weird? Please don’t tell me to just get a smaller pillow. That would be too easy, and it would mean I sewed that sham for nothing.

Aside from that, I just love pictures of little girls’ rooms. Generations have definitely changed, and kids rooms are decorated just as nicely (if not better) as other rooms in the house. My kids’ rooms were the first to be decorated when we moved in, yet I STILL don’t feel like I’m done.
One thing I would definitely invest in for any child is a book shelf. One–you get to put books in it (duh). Two–you get to put cute little baskets in it to hold toys. I know my daughter’s 5 (almost 6, but don’t remind me), but I just can’t bring down her “home from the hospital” outfit and her first dress. Oh so cute. I leave you with another awkward sham picture. OH. I almost forgot. Nester would be proud that I actually hotglued the pom-poms onto the sham. Woo Hoo!

Note: I hate my camera. Her room is just precious, and these pictures do it no justice at all. It’ll take me about 8 months and some pocket saving, but I will talk my husband into a new one.

I couldn’t focus on the sham for being blinded by all of that CUTENESS!! OH my stars, her room is PRECIOUS!!

I don’t know that I would have put a square sham, maybe a bit longer one than the first BUT it’s a sweet, sweet room!! Very girly!!

That room is super sweet! I love it. I used similar colors in my daughter’s room. I think the pillow (with the cute hot glued pom poms) is too big and making it awkward. Maybe try putting the “shammed” pillow against the headboard, and using a couple smaller pillows in front of it? Just a thought!

Your daughters room is so cute! I’m horrible. I never bother to decorate my kids rooms anymore. I tried, but each time we move (and that’s frequently) I have a new obstacle and things don’t work anymore. Not to mention guitars and “High School Musical” posters don’t blend into the theme I had going. Anyhooo…great job on the sham. I like it. It doesn’t have to be perfect to be beautiful! RIGHT??? :o)

I love it! Honestly, I don’t see anything wrong with the sham at all. I think the larger square pillow is “the thing” right now. I’d keep it, I think it will grow on you as you look at it. Nice job on the decorating, I need to focus and complete one room in this house…all you internet decorating girls are inspiring me!

What a precious room for a little girl. I love the color and the sham looks adorable with all of the little pom poms. Very sweet indeed! Susie H~

Oh goodness! The room is adorable! You’re making me consider having another baby just so I can get some pink cuteness into my house!

What if you just switched the position of the two pillows. The white one in the back and the green one in the front. The green one would have to laying down a bit.

Do you have another of the white shams? Maybe two of them in the back and the green one in the front?

It might also work if you had some smaller pillows around the ones already there.

I like how the euro sham looks. Maybe add a neckroll (bolster) pillow in front to even out the sizes. Just a thought….

The room is adoreable. Makes me wish I had a girl – just to make a pretty room!!

    Good luck

I don’t get what you are talking about with the sham? It looks like a really cute Euro sham to me. What were we supposed to look at? I didn’t see anything wrong at all! That room is SOOO CUTE!!

I was confused at where the problem was until you mentioned your camera. Must be the camera – right? Because I don’t see anything wrong with the sham.

I agree on the decorating kids rooms. I put more thought into my daughters room than anywhere else in the house!

    That room is adorable!

I have no idea how to “fix” the sham, but I don’t think it looks funny, so don’t ask me!

I don’t think it looks bad at all. You could always throw another toss pillow on the bed or something if you are worried about it.

So her room is so adorable! I love the pink & green!

CUTE!!!! This room is to die for!!! Really!! And I think the sham you made is darling!! If you don’t quite like it, maybe you could make one more – things in odd numbers always seem to look better for some reason – the triangle idea. Maybe that is what you are seeing – however when I look at that room, I see CUTE!!!!

First of all, LOVE THE ROOM! It is girly perfecto! As far as the sham, what happens if you turn the white sham vertically? Does it make the stair step effect have the correct distance? Then maybe you could find another pillow to the odd number on her bed. OR…just buy a pretty large bolster and it will probably make your stair step look the same and even everything out.

Oh, I just love your little girl’s room. We have such a hard time with my little girl’s room, and I really think it’s because it’s PINK. Pink has to go. I need to borrow some of your ideas.

    Hi,

I love your daughters room! It is just beautiful. You have done a great job in decorating it.

Here is my 2 cents about the Euro sham. I can’t tell what size of bed it is but I will assume it is a double bed. What I have done is use 2 pillows across the back. I do 2 Euro pillows on point in the back then 2 regular pillows in front with shams. Then I would add just a few different size pillows like a round bolster and a small rectangular one with complimentary colors and one more. 3’s are always better than just 2’s of anything for groupings.

    Hope that helps.
I hope to start a blog soon about my house and my projects.

Love the room. And I don’t the square pillow is bad at all. How about puttin it at the bottom of the bed…a good place to snuggle and read.

I love the room, love the sham, and love the name Olivia (if I ever have another little girl, I think that will be her name). I think I agree with Kimba, and I’d put the green pillow in front. Hey, you took the time to hot glue fringe, you may as well show it off! 🙂
