Boys Room Gallery Wall

July 17, 2008 by Chris

As I continue to putz around the house finding random projects to do, I can safely say I accomplished one today. About 14 months ago (that’s over a year), I asked my father-in-law to make me a long shelf above my son’s bed. I’ve harassed him enough, and I still have no shelf. So, I had to look into something else. This is what I came up with.

I found the “J” at Jo-Ann’s fabric several months ago for 1/2 off. My son’s name doesn’t start with “J”, but it was cheap, so I bought it. I painted it red and found some inexpensive oak frames to put around it. I then painted those and painted the mats inside them.
I covered two of the mats with some leftover fabric I had from the throw pillows. I simply hot glued them, so I could take them off if I want them back to khaki. I took some pictures in black and white, and I printed them off on my computer. Insert pictures, hang on wall, and VOILA! I’ve got some more tweaking to do to the rest of his room, and then I’ll have some more pictures for you. Okay, fine. My son’s name doesstart with “J”. Had you goin’, huh?

You know one reason I love your blog so much? It’s like mini tutorials of ideas for me. You are amazing with all of that!

That is a great idea. It may be better than the long shelf that would have probably just collected “boy” stuff. Looks classic… kinda Pottery Barnish.

Ok Girl…I was like ok this cool new chick blog friend of mine is so cool…….but why would she just pick a J???? My mind was beginning to be a bit questionable of that choice and then…well you tricked us and I loved it. I laughed and smiled first thing this am when I clicked on that post again!!!! Your great and it looks great. I love to change up frames.

I love the J and I like the photo’s even better than a shelf. It makes for a cleaner look. I can’t believe some people don’t have a Joanns Fabric store. Well, we are just getting a Hobby Lobby….finally

Love the J – and yeah, I was thinking “this is going too far having letters that don’t even belong in that poor kids name!” But then I thought, hey, half off? Why not?!

Love the “J”!!! I have been wanting to do that for my son (also a “J” man) and now I think I will go ahead and keep the “J” in my cart next time I am at Michael’s. Yes you all heard me correctly…no Hobby Lobby or Joann’s around these parts, so we have to settle for what we have.

That is a great idea…maybe something will work like that in my daughter’s “jail cell” of a room!

You goof! I totally believed you for a minute. I kept thinking, why would anyone buy a J if the name didn’t start with it. duh. It’s been a long day for me.

We have a giant C in our entry way and my friend asked my how The Husband felt about me having MY initial hanging right in the front of the house, I told her he felt fine considering it’s HIS last initial too. ha ha! She forgot.

The room looks fantastic, I really love what you did.

Thanks for the comment on the circle collage. It is a 16×20 canvas with 3 1/2 inch circles. The circles are out of scrapbook paper and glued on with a glue stick. It was fun and easy. I decopaged a wooden letter K to match one of the prints. I dont know why I picked K…thats all that was left at the store. Heidi gives a great tutorial on her site.

J/K Ha Ha Right???? K is for my last name.

You got me! I was thinking now – there’s got to be a reason for her madness – maybe a middle name, last name LOL!! Love what you did with the pictures too – fabulous idea! You are a really good photographer too – great pictures of your son!!

    Oh, love your boy’s bedroom!
It gave me some ideas for my boy’s bedroom that I plan to redo in the fall.
And I was about to ask you to hand over the J! My boy’s first name starts with that letter. 🙂
    Thanks for sharing!!

I love the idea of covering the mats with fabric. I might have to use that idea soon.

Oh, and the pillows look perfect.

That was SO funny! And I was totally thinking up words that could start with a J and thinking, “that girl is just like me… she put up a letter J just because it worked”! So yeah, you really had me going!
