Christmas Tour of Homes {Day 1}

by Chris on December 9, 2013

Well hello there! Happy tour day! While I’m excited to share my home’s Christmas cheer with you, I’m overly giddy to see what the other bloggers have done! Basically, I’m giddy to see all the ideas I’m gonna swipe from them. Would you believe me if I told you I’m not even done decorating yet? Of course you would. ‘Cause that would be a dumb thing for me to lie about.

Blogger Christmas Tour

Soooo I’m stop 1 (duh), and after you visit here, you can see my friend (and inspiration!) Nester at

Screen Shot 2013 12 08 at 11 42 52 PM

I’ll have the list of bloggers at the end of this post, and be sure to check back! I’ll be updating all their links through the week. Okay–enough talking. Here we go!

Christmas porch

The theme outside is lots of greenery. Nothing too complex, but I like it to welcome our guests!

Red green porch

Christmas dining room

I kept the dining room at a minimum this year, but I focused on the china cabinet.  Have you ever tried to photograph items in a black cabinet? Gees. We’re talking rocket science here.

Dining cabinet

Christmas vignette

You know I love the neutrals, so I went with some gold-tone trees to match the room. Really, anything with glitter is my friend.

Glitter trees

The main room always gets the most attention ’cause that’s where we spend most of our time.

Christmas living room

I haven’t changed up the tree in a couple years ’cause…you know, I like it that way.

Neutral Christmas

The mantel, however, is always getting a new outfit. She’s spoiled.

Christmas mantel

I’ve been covering things in sweaters for years (it’s an illness), so why not add some sweater presents? The satin ribbon…drool.

Christmas fireplace

Fur stockings

One word: Fur. I can’t get enough of it.

Rustic christmas table

My poor son’s room. I change that sucker constantly, and it’s having identity issues. I l-o-v-e decorating for such a masculine space, so I can’t leave it alone.

Rustic Christmas bedroom

Yes. I jumped on the deer head bandwagon. Judge me. I dare you.

Masculine Christmas bedroom

Like it doesn’t totally belong in here.

Rustic Christmas

The kitchen is getting it’s own special touches still, but you can see how I decorated the table already. Clearly, we eat like this every day.

And finally…our room. My husband hates the color red, so I don’t decorate with it. But it’s Christmas! I need some red somewhere, right? I figure he spends most of his time in here with his eyes closed, so maybe he’ll never know. Red white Christmas

Christmas bells

Red Christmas bedroom

So that’s most of the house. I’m still tweaking a couple of spaces, and of course I couldn’t leave out Little Miss’s room. AND I haven’t shown the outside yet! We’re getting dumped on with snow right now, so it’ll be nice and white.

OH, my, I just complained about how over done some houses are and so trendy. I said I don’t do house tours anymore….but I do love your house so I checked you out! Your décor is lovely, clean, sophisticated, charming and not trendy. I love it and now will do more of the members on your tour.

Kim @ Sand & Sisal December 9, 2013 at 11:30 am

Suzanne December 9, 2013 at 4:50 pm

Hi, Chris,

Jennifer Rizzo “sent” me.

Enjoyed your Christmas tour and I LOVE your writing style.

You’re already one of my “home pages” and I guess I should sign up for your emails, too.

Merry Christmas!

Courtney {a thoughtful place} December 9, 2013 at 4:53 pm

Agree with Michelle! Table totally looks straight from a magazine. So does the mantel. . it all does. The satin ribbon on those sweater gifts is so beautiful. Cracking up about your hubby keeping his eyes closed . . . sure he won’t notice that red! ;)

Emily Clark December 9, 2013 at 6:23 pm

It’s beautiful. The sweater presents (!) and your table setting tie for my two very favorite things :)

Chris December 11, 2013 at 8:33 am

HI Jessica!

I’m afraid it’s real. It’s a Frazier fir if that helps. :) Thank you!

Love the tree–so when it works keep it that way! And I really like the fabric/blanket over the dining room table. Neat touch!

Sarah December 10, 2013 at 1:04 pm

Sigh… every time I visit your page I get this incredible urge to leave work so I can do something pretty to my place. Your home looks BEAUTIFUL! I love the new mantel set-up over the fireplace!! I must try it!!

Blessings to you and yours this holiday season.

Barbara Grooms December 10, 2013 at 2:39 pm

Chris, How lovely everything is. It’s hard to tell you what is my favorite. Love the sweater presents and satin bows on the mantle. Jackson’s room is FAB…Love the plaid throw with the deer head. Perfect for his room, and such a cool Christmas tree. He can lay in bed and truly enjoy how you decorated his “area”. Your bedroom is georgeous! Had fun going to each new red item. Lovely bell wreaths on the mirrors and those three red vases. I like your style honey compared to some of the other homes. You decorate with class and style without being junky looking. Love it. Mom

Heather December 10, 2013 at 8:17 pm

It’s all so beautiful Chris!! Adore the sweater packages on the mantel…that may be one of my most favorite things I’ve seen this year! Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us!

Merry Christmas!

Chris December 12, 2013 at 9:15 am

Hi Connie! It’s from Ikea. Good luck!

Beth@HomeStoriesAtoZ December 11, 2013 at 8:08 pm

Beautiful job Chris! I always love how you keep your season decor simple, clean, and pulled together. The touches of plaid throughout are fab and the sweater-gift mantel is brilliant. And of course I’m loving the deer head! I added one this year too. Not sure if you’ve seen my home tour yet, but he’s in my dining room :).
