VOTE

October 12, 2008 by Chris

Some bloggers have recently made it clear who they support politically. I would like to take a minute to step away from that issue simply to promote the fact that millions of Americans simply choose not to vote. This is not a political stance; it is simply an act of education.
Here are some startling facts:
293.6 million total population
177.3 million citizens registered
113.9 million citizens who vote

And just so we don’t take ourselves tooooo seriously, some humor for you…

And lastly, will you be voting for the right reasons?????

Again…I’m not telling you who to vote for, but pleeeaaassse consider the importance of voting!

THANK you for a non-party political post. What a relief. I won’t lie… I tend to click the X quickly when I see a blog promoting a candidate. I think many would be surprised just how INTO this election I am. And how very STRONG my opinions are. I find it very, very, VERY difficult not to mention it on my blog. I won’t be so presumptuous to tell anyone else what they should do on their own blogs, though. (not that I think you are) AND yes… I am voting for the right reasons. The reasons that are right for ME and what I feel are right for MY country. There is NO way I’m sitting this election out… I hope nobody takes for granted that this election is a sure thing and doesn’t bother to vote.

I will be voting and I am voting what my heart says is the right thing to do based on many factors. I am very much into politics (though I wasn’t always) but I hate to call them politics because in my mind that conjures up exactly what I am not about. I just keep trusting that God is in complete control over this situation.

I am in the same boat as Marie. Lately, I’ve been dreading to log on in fear of what political post I’d find that day. I commend you for posting about the importance of voting. Thanks:)

My theory is is that I can’t whine, moan, groan and complain about who is in office if I didn’t vote.

I don’t mind voting at all, I actually like it. I take my kids every time so they can see me doing it and remember that. I always walk away feeling honored and grateful to live in America and empowered by the women who fought for my right to vote, no matter the outcome.

I feel the same way, Kris! We always take our kids to vote so they can see the process and be immersed in its importance! We can’t complain if we don’t have a voice! That’s true!

Well said! I agree completely and get so frustrated with people who choose not to exercise their right to vote.

Right on! I have voted in every election since I was 18, even the smaller ones for town council and such. I cannot believe there are so many women who choose not to vote! It is part of what makes our country great and we need to do it!

I agree…we all need to vote! I didn’t always feel that passionately about it, but I’ve changed my mind as I’ve gotten older. Vote! It’s a privilege.

We get a update daily in our news about your election (I am from Australia) so I have been loosely following it. It is absolutely compulsory to vote in Australia!!

Great post. I have always believed that it doesn't matter who you vote for but you need to vote. I hope some 'non-voters' saw your post & that they will do it this year. It's so important.
