SAS Day and “Normal”

February 25, 2011 by Chris

I’m on mid-winter break this week, so I decided to gut the kids’ bedrooms. As I approached the rooms with my hazmat suit, I found it funny how differently they seem to play. Case in point–

boys weapons

He’s the “typical” boy with his arsenal of weapons and the ultimate Star Wars battle.

Then, there’s my daughter. She has her books lined up for her “students” and has written her very own Santa book.

school books

No girl’s room is complete without a plethora of jewelry, some ultra-cute writing utensils, and the ever classic chick flick “Aquamarine”.

jewelry table

Of course, no cleaning day would be complete without finding this on her work desk.

Apparently, after a tough round of tic-tac-toe, a cup of jo just won’t take the edge off.  My little 8-year old has realized that she needed something just a little stronger. That can’t be normal, right? Do you find this stuff in your kids’ rooms?

Oh, this is cracking me up. I love the stronger stuff! So true about what I find in my daughter's room and how she keeps her things versus my son's. Have a great weekend.

    Ha! That's hilarious!
I used to do that as a kid… I thought wine bottles were "pretty" and I would hoard them in my room on the windowsill.

My mother would have a heart attack when she saw, worrying about what the neighbors would think when they saw wine bottles lined up in the 7-year old's bedroom 🙂

    Happy Friday

Ohhhh, those star wars toys are all too familiar to me, we have them and they're left ALL OVER THE HOUSE! *sigh*

    You're too funny! 🙂

Too funny! My daughter is only 18 months old but I still find a plethora of things in her room…including the occasional cell phone and keys.

That;s great – starting her off early? 😉 Greg likes to hide food in his room "to save for later" I have to go in there nightly and peek around to see what he's stashed. My kids rooms drive me crazy!

That is hilarious! Can't say I have ever found a beer bottle in my son's room, yet. Although I don't think I would be surprised. He lieks to collect things too. 🙂

    hilarious!
I just donned a hazmat suit and did the kids rooms myself. Mind you, the baby's room wasn't exactly scary. But my three year old had quite a collection of Stuff under her bed and in her closet. Including but not limited to:
    mandarin orange segments
    random puzzle pieces
baby toys stolen from the baby and hidden (apparently she is passive-aggressive and a wee bit more jealous than I realized)
    -clothing tags? From my clothes?
    -all my missing pencils
    -that shirt she doesn't like
    -one of my bras (awesome.)

Lol, that's hilarious, maybe she wanted to make something pretty out of the bottle, you know, throw on some glitter and puff paint, hehe

I have 4 boys. If I ever walked into their room and saw their books lined up so neatly and things in their places I would faint dead away.

I have found all sorts of interesting bottles around the house though… Love the Guinness.

That Lego Star Wars scene looks very familiar…I have to be careful when I walk into my son's room not to step on any battle fields.

I tackled two kids' rooms this week too … they do a decent job of keeping them clean but every now and then they need an organizational rehaul. Major gender differences noted at our house as well!

You know mom, a little scrapbook paper, modpodge, glitter, paint and that bottle can become all sorts of gorgeousness! Hilarious :). O is a cutie.

That looks like it could be my house! With 3 boys we have LOTS of weapons. Our baby girl doesn't keep beer bottles in her room…yet. She just hoards all the boys stuff that she knows is super important to them. If a special Star Wars guy is missing it's almost always hidden under her bed!

Wait until she's old enough to honestly wonder if she put it there! I've found the oddest things in my kids' rooms. Now I just find the guest towels as they are both gone. Enjoy the chaos while you can ^^

I see things like that all the time around here. My boys like airplanes and weapons. My daughter loves animals and drawing. They're all so different, it's funny.

Great post…and I love the Guiness bottle!

If I found that in my daughter's room, chances are that I was the one who left it there in a moment of forgetfulness. I am forever putting things down and forgetting where I left them … beer included, I guess.

This absolutely cracked me up! My 8-year-old routinely pilfers things from the recycling bin for craft projects… I'm sure it is just a matter of time before I make a similar discovery. 🙂

My 1st time here. What a fun linky! Those things remind me of my kid's rooms…little boy w/ Star Wars gear everywhere and my daughter w/ her books and purses. Too cute!

Haha that collection of guns made me laugh. It reminded me of the time we were going through customs and I suddenly thought to myself OMG what did my 7 year old pack in his hand luggage. Many plastic weapons of mass production thats what! Cringe!
