Ornament Wreath

November 19, 2009 by Chris

Let me make this declaration.  I am a FIRM believer that you do not decorate for one holiday before another has taken place.  Firm.  Believer.  Thanksgiving and Christmas are two very different feelings to me, and I don’t need decor mixing ‘em up.  However…

IMG_8328

I couldn’t resist a jump up on just one.  So I’ve seen others taking part in this project, but Eddie Ross’s was my dream wreath.  The colors were perfect, and that bow sang to me.  He used about 80 ornaments.  I did not.

IMG_8310

I hit up the dollar store and bought these tubes of ornaments for, well, $1.00.  The pink ones I picked up for 1/2 off at Michaels.  I had to have the pink.  Oddly enough, I actually had to buy a package of wire hangers at the dollar store.  I didn’t have a single one!  Wire hangers and I don’t really get along.

IMG_8311

Like Eddie says, unwrap the wire and form a circle out of the hanger.  Then, just thread the ornaments on in assorted colors.  I hot-glued the hook to half of them like he told me to.  The other half, I didn’t.  I regret that decision.

IMG_8313

IMG_8325

Of course, the only problem now is that I didn’t buy enough ornaments for two of them.  Inside the den is where I keep the kids’ white tree, and I thought this would be a cute entrance.  Looks like I’m back to the dollar store for more!

IMG_8322

Until then, let’s just pretend.

IMG_8316

Okay.  That’s it.  Back to Thanksgiving.  No more talk of this stuff.

I had my hand on some ornaments at my local Peddler's Mall today, and decided NOT to buy them. I didn't think it was enough ornaments to make this kind of wreath. They were true vintage ornaments. I am regretting that decision right now.
Can you tell me how many ornaments you used?
It turned out fantastic! I don't look forward to gluing on all the ringy things, but I guess I'll learn from your mistakes and do that step. 🙂
    great job! thanks for sharing!

I too loved Eddie's wreath. I bought those same Dollar Store ornaments, except I used all the different silver ones instead of colors. This has been the hardest project I have ever done! I didn't hot glue the tops on them ahead of time because they seemed to be pretty sturdy. Then after I get a lot of them on the hanger, they start falling off and I have to hot glue them as I go. I actually had to start over and make it a second time. It is getting there, but I still am not totally satisfied. Yours is lovely!

I so know about decorating for holidays. As a child we put our tree up AFTER Thanksgiving dinner. So I have this hang up about starting before. Although I have my new pine cone tree in my living room! I am dying to put up my tree this year…because I have this idea. IF it works out like the vision in my head. LOL LOVE the wreath! It's so shiny. 😉

    Thanks for this idea too.

Okay I am a traditionalist about Christmas colors…so I was not impressed with the color selection at the dollar store.

But that is so cute…. but…maybe I have enough ornaments already that I would only have to get a few…guess it's off to the dollar store I go tomorrow!

Thanks I think I will totally copy this….just different colors.

As for the two holiday decorating, not a problem for me (I'm Canadian) and our Thanksgiving is the second Monday of October, October 12th this year. Goodbye Halloween, hello Christmas 😉 Well, actually I like a little break of no seasonal decorating for a bit first.

I saw this on Eddie Ross's website also and made mine a few weeks ago (I just couldn't wait!). I used about 60 ornaments, I'd say. I got mine at Ikea…they have a great bulk box of ornaments in red and silver. Yours is so pretty!

I never heard a thing! ; ) I also saved Eddie Ross' post on this to try. I had purchased some of those ornament sleeves from the dollar store and I'll need to get more and a few other sizes, too. Can't wait to try this!

Gorgeous! I'm buying ornaments to make one or two wreaths as well. I didn't realize they used so many ornaments to make one. Better get more!

How did you hang the wreath to the door? I mean- how did you hang what looks like ribbon from the top of your door? Or is it a door hanger?

Ok, so I know I'm coming to this party a bit late, but I have a quick question: how did you attach the pink ribbon so cleanly to the ornament wreath? Did you hot glue it to the back, or is it threaded through the ornaments and around the wire? I appreciate your help, I'm making this wreath as a gift for my mother and just know she'll love it!
