I don’t even know where to begin with this post. I suspect that from this point on, I’m going to say, “This is the most beautiful place I’ve ever seen” a lot. It started with Venice and just continued to be amazing. I could go through and tell you all the Italian names, but it’s really about the beauty here.
You’re going to notice a common theme in this post. Water. The first reason is because, well…the whole city is on water. Secondly, my BFF and I had a limited amount of time to shop here. Everyone in our group knew that priority #1 for us two was shopping, and we knew Venice had plenty of it. So all the little inner streets (read: narrow, cobblestone, charm) didn’t get documented much. The only reason I took the one below is ’cause my girl had to have pizza in Venice, so I snapped it while she ate in St. Mark’s square. What can I say? We likey the shopping.
Out of my two weeks touring Europe, one of the top three highlights for me was the gondola ride. If you ever get over there, DON’T skimp on it. It gives you views of the city that you’ll just never get otherwise.
FYI–the hottest day of the trip was here. We were sweating in weird places, so it was very tempting to jump into all that water!
For whatever reason, I am blessed to have been to Italy twice and on gondola rides both times. Each experience was completely different for me, but they were both equally amazing. I think it may have helped that the second ride included some champagne with my friends. 🙂
And yes…they really do look like this.
After our day (not nearly long enough, mind you), we left at the most perfect time. The sun was settling down, and the water was sparkling. Needless to say, it was a beautiful ending to our fanTAStic experience.
As you can imagine, this is a sampling of pictures from Venice, but it gives you a good breakdown of the day. The Italian escapades don’t stop there, however! I’ll be back next week with our next stop. Until then, check out Amsterdam, Heidelberg, Munich, and Austria. A little timeline check? That was all in the first week. Woah.
We went to Italy last year for a week and my favorite place was Venice. It’s just so beautiful and I wish that I could have spent more than 2 days there. Thanks for sharing the beautiful pictures it makes me want to go back so bad now!
Love love love all these pics…takes me back, for sure. Funny, we did the exact opposite…stayed on all the small, cobbled side streets, and kept away from the shops! I think that means we’re ying and yang…which is a perfect combo #duh
Your photos are fabulous — they really convey the feel of Venice. It is one of my favorite places, and I hope to get back there someday. I agree with you that the gondola ride is not to be missed!
I’m excited to see another Tuesday Traveler! I have also been to Venice and although we had more than one day there, our experiences were pretty similar. Water, shopping, pizza, narrow cobblestone streets. The main difference? It was FREEZING when we were there. We took a boat to Murano and that was one of the coldest experiences of my life. Totally worth it though. Such a fun, vibrant, beautiful city!
