It’s the Little Things…

December 22, 2009 by Chris

Last minute everything is happening around JaG’s house, but I thought I’d share how I take care of all those little gifts that are given at the holidays.  When it comes to little boxes, I think general wrapping paper can appear overwhelming on such a little trinket box.

IMG_8746

Since I tend to lean toward a more simplified look in the first place, I pick up these little white boxes in various shapes at Michaels throughout the year.  The best part about wrapping this way means you can play up the boxes with all that gorgeous ribbon out there.  I purchased these at Michaels.  They were 1/2 off, and I went into a frenzy when I was picking them out.

IMG_8748

Combine the boxes with the plethora of ribbon combinations, and you’ve got some pretty swank little packages to give away. Or keep for yourself so you can stare at them.

IMG_8769

One of my favorite things about this idea is that, with essentially a few spools of ribbon, you can come up with so many variations of gift wrap!

IMG_8768

I just kept throwing different combinations of ribbon on there until I came up with something I liked.  There’s no science behind it.  However, I sure wouldn’t mind knowing how to tie a really good bow.  There’s definitely a science behind THAT.

One project down, and 6,241 chores to finish.  Happy Wrapping!

I learned how to make bows when I worked at a florist – and the secret is wired ribbon – although I got adept enough at it that I can make them with plain ribbon as well! Maybe someday I will do a how-to video!

  24. Kristen says

    December 23, 2009 at 3:29 am

OMG you seriously cannot make a real bow? I have so much to teach you…they are the easiest things in the world. I promise. Maybe I should do a tutorial for you. Would that help that hot mess of ribbon you have going on there? (actually, I'll give you some credit considering the skill level.) 😉

I write a blog about gift wrapping (http://www.thegiftedblog.com). I'd love to share your idea on it! Drop me a comment if that's alright by you.

    Thanks!
