Snazzy Frame Idea

November 23, 2009 by Chris

So it’s a few days before Thanksgiving, and I’m still decorating for it.  I can’t help myself.  Plus, I have the big dinner at my house.  It can never feel Thanksgiving’ed enough, right?  I’m sure you’ve seen these inexpensive little wood frames all over the place.  This was $3.99, and I got it 30% off.  I have no idea how much that makes it.  $5.00?

Sand it down (these things are pretty rough around the edges), paint it, and spruce it up with some little adhesive leaves.  They came in a little package for $1.00-ish.

For under $5.00, it’s not bad for a custom frame.  Imagine the possibilities here.  All kinds of holidays or decor variations could work with something like this, and it’s so simple.

IMG_8416

Everything else, I simply shopped the house for.  A pile of acorns here, a nest with some feathers here.  Pretty simple stuff, but when you put them together, it makes a pretty good vignette.

Just so you don’t go thinking it’s all fun and games around the JaG house, I’m off to finish grading these…

And just for dramatics sake, here’s another shot.

WHY couldn’t I have become a PE teacher?!

You are like a "super women"… creating super cute things, having a family, AND grading stacks of papers. Love the blog

Too cute, I love the little leaf embellishments.

I'm having a "Go Nuts" party on my blog Tuesday (starting Monday night) and I'd love for you to stop by and link up this post featuring your decor with acorns!

OR a second grade teacher 🙂 I taught second grade at a local school for twenty years and loved loved loved it. They were too little to be mouthy and big enough not to pee in their pants haha It was a dream career. AND I taught with four of my bestest friends. Yep, a dream job!

PE…really? Then you wouldn't get to have cute file folders. And you'd have to run, wear a whistle and have a mullet haircut. Ew. Good luck with the papers. I'll bet you get some good laughs off of those kids and what they write!

Love the frame! Great idea and so easy too.
The stack is sobering however. I hope it went fast and you had plenty of time to put your feet up and enjoy your Thanksgiving decor.
    Have a wonderful holiday!

Gorgeous frame! I'm thinking cream with gold for Christams time?

That is a big pile of essays! It's good that you take them home though. I think een though they take over your life sometimes, its better if they are doing it in a place you feel comfortable!

You mold minds, Chris! Just keep saying that to yourself! ; ) Love the frame with the leaf stickers around it and the picture you put in it.

HA!! Oh, you made me laugh when you asked why you didn't become a p.e. teacher!! See, I taught 3rd grade for one year (my degree is in Eng. and Ed.) and swore if I had to do it again, I'd change careers! I now teach art and while I still have stacks of things to grade, they are fun to look at and analyze!! Poor you. I remember my "take-home-work bag." Secretly, though, I'd love to teach lit.
    BTW– I love the frame!!

I love this! I can't believe I've never seen those leaf gems. I wish I was your friend . . . or at least your neighbor . . . so I could soak up some of your creative energy!

    Thanks for sharing.

Love your vignette almost as much as I like to say vignette. (The word sounds so snooty and pretentious I just like it way it feels in my mouth. I know…weirdness.) You never cease to amaze me with your creativity. I love your frame but the pic of your kiddos is precious. What did you have to bribe them with to get them to walk hand in hand? Or do they really love each other that much? You are blessed. And the papers? Ugh. I'm so glad I backed out of teaching at the college this semester. I do not envy you that. Love to you girl!

I DO remember that grading thing! Even though mine were from second graders, it still took oodles of time. I think I could have done some of it in my sleep but that really would not have the right thing to do. Good luck with all your darling craft projects. Thanks for all you share with all of us.

These are cute!1 I made frames with family quotes last year for my parents and in-laws. Just used the rub-ons right on the glass and it was good to go. Will be trying this for sure.

And I understand your essay grading pain! I just finished reading narrative essays and we start persuasive after Thanksgiving break– my eyes are burning!!!
