DIY Pottery Barn Mirrors

October 23, 2013 by Chris

My friend Lindsay from Makely School for Girls  decided to host a brilliant blog hop, and I get to be a part of it! We’re already into day 3, so stop by and see all the other amazing projects! Did you see Carmel’s candlesticks? Mad skills, I tell ya. Head to Our Fifth House to see them.

So this is going to be that absurd moment where I tell you I have an amazing knock-off to show you, but I don’t have any pictures of it. Sort of. It starts out with the inspiration (Exhibit A) and ends with the knock-off (Exhibit F). The only problem is that exhibits B-E disappeared into cyberspace. Orrrr there is that off chance that I imagined I took all these pictures of how I did it, but really didn’t. You with me here?

Pottery Barn has these uh. may. zing beveled frames that I’ve been drooling over since 1982. Well, it feels like it’s been that long. They sparkle and glitz like the stars in heaven, and I’ve wanted them to be mine for a long time.

Enter stage left this beautiful place. I LOVE when they have a bunch of their decor at 80-90% off. They can have some pretty ugly items that are just screaming to be gussied up with some paint. Basically, I found two beveled frames for $14.00 a piece. I removed the gaudy center that had some scraped looking chandelier on it. I took the inserts to Lowes and had them replace it with mirror. How deflating, right? You want to see the ugly befores! I understand. Truly.

But you’ll just have to deal with the afters. DIY Pottery Barn

The pictures don’t do them justice. They’re about 22″ square, and they sparkle and sing to me! I’m in love!

Let’s do a little cost breakdown, shall we?

Pottery Barn beveled mirror: $149 a PIECE. Total: $300

Hobby Lobby/Lowes rigged beveled mirror: $14 a frame $10 a mirror = $24 Total: $48!!

And just when I was starting to feel SO cool about my purchase, I went and lost all the pictures to show you how cool I am. Typical.

Why don’t you go visit another talented Lindsay at The White Buffalo Styling Company? I KNOW she did something fantastic!

Chris, I love it!!! How genius to create beveled mirrors from a frame and a mirror. So creative! Glad to be in a series with you 🙂

I didn’t even know that Lowes could do that?! I’ve seen those exact mirrors with that distressed chandy in the middle…..now you have my wheels turning. Such a great deal!
