Well, happy Monday! Hopefully you had a good weekend. I mostly rested up from a cold that just wouldn’t let go, but I did get to stop into Hobby Lobby for a bit of retail therapy. I had an “aha” moment while I was there. You know–one of those where you’re all, “Duh! Why didn’t I think of that sooner?!”
I won’t over-word this one. It’s pretty self-explanatory. Hobby Lobby has a bunch of these plastic frames that are super inexpensive. The back is just filled with some cardboard, so I removed the innards and flipped it into a tray. A 40% off coupon made it $3.00.
I already had this paper on hand. It was 12×12, so I just cut it down to fit inside. An 8×10 piece would have fit perfectly.
And I present to you the $3.00 pretty little tray.
I didn’t do anything to adhere the paper. Just stuck it in there. So easy it’s almost embarrassing. Almost.
So cute!

Brilliant! Can’t believe I didn’t think of that either!! 🙂
Genius! I have been searching for trays in different sizes to match my decor…and budget. This is perfect, Chris!
Great idea! Love it.
I won’t over word it either…perfect and EASY!
OK but I have to add now that I noticed, really noticed, your cool white pencils…They say “Just a Girl”! Too cool!
Such a good idea! I’m going to search the house to see where I can put one. Thanks for the good idea!
OMG so cute!! I love this idea for my dresser display!! Perfect! Seriously great idea!!
Love this idea!
that is so smart! i would not have thought of that!
And that is why I have always read your blog. I never would have thought to do that. But totally going to now! I like the paper being loose too, then you can change with decor easily. Genius as always. Thanks!
Genius! I might make one of these as a shower party favor.
SO gorgeous… the “tray”, the paper you selected, the styling, your photography! Absolute perfection! We will soon have these trays covering every surface in my entire house! ; )
I really like that paper…do you remember where you got it?
Genius! Can’t wait to do it. Thank you so much!
So clever!
Brilliant!! Seriously…..LOVE it and how easy it to put together! Looks gorgeous! Keep the great (and easy) ideas coming!!
Such a great idea! And can be used all over the house 🙂
This would be cute on a kitchen or bathroom counter! If you did it in a bathroom, you could laminate it so the moisture wouldn’t ruin the paper 🙂
Uh-mazing!
This is the kind of craft that even I can handle !!
That idea was waiting for you to discover. Sometimes we get in such a hurry we don’t look at ordinary things that can be repurposed and you were the clever girl to discover it. Great job. That is a great idea and inexpensive, gets my vote. Happy March
Very cute 🙂 Good way to add a little bling! If I keep anything cute like this on our coffee table, my bull mastiff gets his slobbering nasty mouth in it and makes a mess!
What a fabulous idea and beyond simple! I have seen plenty of acrylic trays and other small pieces that I liked but their price tags put me off. Your idea is easy, modern and luxurious with a budget price tag. Love it!
Super love this idea. I was looking for those frames and did not find them at M’s so glad you posted they have them at HobLob! Also really love your phone case? Where did you get it? 🙂
This is an awesome idea, Chris! I love it! So chic and for around $5…can’t beat that! I may have to make myself one for my desk organizer.
xo,
Jennifer
Love your iphone case! Where did you get it???
Love easy projects that don’t LOOK easy! So cute. Thanks for sharing.
So smart! I made mine today and I adore it! I made the Container Store version for gifts this past Christmas, but love how inexpensive this is!
This tray is adorable, I can’t wait to make one of my own! I also wanted to let you know I featured you in my Kick-Off Friday post today! http://craftivitydesigns.blogspot.com/2013/03/kick-off-friday.html
So GENIUS! I have had my eye on these treys at Joss and Main, but couldn’t justify the price. At $3 and I don’t have to be super smart, I’m all over it! THANK YOU 🙂
Such a clever idea! I’m definitely doing this. Thanks, Robin
Such a genius idea. I love your phone cover and would love to know where it is from!
This is so ingenious!!! Seriously, thank you for thinking of this awesomeness and sharing:) I think I need to make a few of them.
