OK. So I’m talkin’ house goals again. I’m in month 6 of the year, and I’m almost there! Not bad. I swore that I was going to eradicate the ugly light disease around here, and I’m a step closer. So here’s the chandelier in our dining room. Not ugly by any means, but it was never what I wanted. I lived with it. For 8 years.
I looked and shopped and scoured for months. Oh I found a ton of them that I love. I just couldn’t afford them. But this one? This was the one I would pine after.
- When I first found it, it was $850. No way.
- Then it was $652. Can’t do it.
- Then…Joss and Main had it. For $429. Ugh. Who can afford that?!
Well, I guess someone who’s been saving for months and months and has waited more than enough time for it. That’s who. So in my shopping cart it went. And then I sweated over my purchase.
Admittedly, I’m cheap. I will rarely (ever?) spend this kind of money on something like this, but it was worth the splurge.
I guess years of frugality go out the window when you fall in love with that one piece, eh? I’m not the only one who’s done this in the name of love, am I?
P.S. If you haven’t heard of Joss and Main, run over there and sign up (for free). They have amazing deals!! Just click on the image below (and no, they have NO idea who I am. 🙂
Ohh, this is my favorite light fixture right now and I want it in my dining room! I don’t have it fro all of the reasons listed above. Boo. It looks lovely in your home!
Oooh, it’s beautiful! I figure, as long as you’ve saved up for it, you can afford one splurge, right? 🙂
BEAUTIFUL!!!! I like how the one you bought doesn’t have the exposed bulbs – those bother me! And we all know my opinion matters the most here. It looks beautiful in the room, sometimes you really need that one “special/expensive” piece to pull everything together. (At my house it’s the the tissue paper butterfly artwork with the fruit loop antennae.)
Totally makes the room & worth every penny, LOVE that fixture!!!!
Kate
It’s gorgeous!!!
fabulous!! It certainly is the statement for your room! enjoy your splurge.
Every great design has one AMAZING element…this is it! It’s the kind of fixture that you build an entire room around! It’s your “wow” factor! Congrats, it’s beautiful.
AWESOME!! I really think when you search for something like this and find “the piece” that speaks to you, it’s totally worth it (and even better when you score it on sale). Had you “settled” on something else, every time you saw it, you would have looked at it with buyer’s remorse. I’m guessing this chandy makes you happy every time you look at it. 🙂
I’m frugal like you are, but sometimes it’s worth the plunge. If it helps to finish things so you move on, then it’s worth it. Enjoy it!
It’s beautiful, and just the bit of wow we all need in our rooms! Nothin’ wrong with saving your pennies for something you want, and beautiful lighting can be expensive anyway. I say way to get such a good deal on it, girl 🙂 Aaaand, I’m officially jealous. Haha 🙂
What a great statement piece! This gamble paid off beautifully! You got to know when to hold ’em, know when to fold ’em, know when to walk away and know when to run.
Ha! You’re not alone. I have lusted after something that I finally just break down and buy it. My mom always told me it’s better to buy something you love, because after time you will forget how much it cost, but you never forget if you settle for anything less than what you really wanted. I love your chandelier.
What a gorgeous new piece for your room! Sometimes it’s necessary to splurge but you know what, you saved so much in other areas I’m sure so it all evens out 🙂 That’s what I tell myself!
Beautiful!! Love your blog, been lurking for a while now…
It is beautiful! I did the same thing with my Anthropologie curtains. Who spends that kind of money on curtains? I did. Why? Because I never spend money and I loved THOSE curtains. No substitute would do. I don’t regret it one bit.
🙂 Lovely light fixture!!!
Looks great!! Brings the room together really nicely. Congrats on your BHG visit. That’s awesome!!
Great purchase Chris! Judy’s mom said it perfectly. Why go through life regretting not buying the piece you love. I have found over the years that the pieces I waited and saved up for have given me the most satisfaction. I like the idea of one really nice item that pops the room . I’m happy you waited and got what you really LOVE…..Mom
worth it – love. so true…surround yourself with the things you LOVE cause you’d probably end spending the same amount or more trying to fill the void with mediocre pieces, replacing it with another mediocre…again and again. know what i mean? enjoy!!!
Well I think you got it for a GREAT price, and it is well worth the money spent. I love Joss & Main, I have purchased many items from them, it can get kind of addicting. The fixture makes the room. And really, if you live with it for the next 8 years {like you did your last one}, that is only 15 cents a day! That’s a steal 🙂
Definitly noyt the only one! Just think about it this way….you deserve it because of all the money you saved being frugal. After all you also got it at discount too. Just enjoy it!
Looks lovely, well worth the splurge! I am moving in to a “fixer upper” and lighting is EXPENSIVE…boo!
You did good =) the new addition was definitely worth the splurge, i wonder if you can make it? the outer pattern with something like wood veneer? what do you think?
What great shopping and will-power — 50% lower than the original $850 cost — you deserve it! And it looks so beautiful. I agree with Judy above, about loving something and experiencing that joy every time you enter the room. I once went out to buy an oven, and came home with a stunning chandelier instead. When I walk into my dining room, though, it doesn’t matter that I’m still cooking on that horrid old oven — the chandelier just makes the room sing. Good for you!
It looks awesome in your dining room…definitely worth the splurge.
Wow gorgeous room, seriously. I posted a question on your buffet tutorial if you can elo me… I will be forever grateful.
Wow, Chris, what a beautiful room! Thank you for sharing it. I stumbled upon you via a Google search and I’m your newest follower.

I love the fixture (unique, but simple and very elegant) and the room is gorgeous. Noticed the “nemesis” snoozing in there so he must like it, too.
I think you chose well. IMO, you are “allowed” to splurge on a few nice things for your home. At least you didn’t pay full price!
Gorgeous. LOVE it–and totally worth it. CANNOT WAIT TO SEE YOU!!!
🙂
xoxo,

It was meant for that room – perfect!
I love your new light fixture, but your old one isn’t too shabby. Do you need someone to take it off your hands?
