Weekend in Review

by Chris on May 23, 2011

No spray paint was involved and besides organizing them, no glue guns were used either. However, it was a busy weekend! In an effort to give a “holla!” to all the hard-working women out there (can you tell I’ve been listening to a lot of Beyonce this weekend?), I thought I’d share a little picture tour of my accomplishments.

Two kinds of people will appreciate this picture. 1. Anyone who lives in Michigan—no more boots! 2. Anyone who fights the daily war with shoes.

Just pretend this picture’s obvious. I washed rugs this weekend. I hate washing rugs. It’s a little disenchanting because now that means I have to tackle the floor underneath them, but at least that part is done.

Target rug

I spent no less than three Beyonce songs (told ya) and two Justin Bieber songs (don’t judge) turning this…

into this… More to come on this one.

There was a lot of this over the weekend. Why, exactly, did we think it would be such a great idea to have some land?

When summerizing the deck, my husband found this adorable little bird’s nest.

Well, I guess little is a relative term here. It’s not the first time, though. Remember??

What are the kids doing while we’re slaving away? This. Don’t ask.

Hopefully your weekend was as productive, yet more normal than ours! Orrrr…maybe you’re like us and this is normal.

My heart goes out to you on the grass cutting. I don't have anywhere close to that amount of land…but hate cutting it.

Sarah @ Cozy.Cottage.Cute. May 23, 2011 at 4:08 am

I kind of love those weekends… puttering around and getting all of those odds and ends jobs done.

Your yard is stunning! But man, that must be a pain to mow… :)

Stephanie May 23, 2011 at 4:17 am

I can't believe that nest! Seriously, think of all that hard work that went into it, amazing. I wish I could say I was as productive as you were, I can't wait to see what the white fabric has turned into! Beautiful yard!

Amy Kinser May 23, 2011 at 4:18 am

love your daughter in that box! how creative!

Jocelyn May 23, 2011 at 4:19 am

Oooo, did you buy or build the shoe rack? I desperately need something like that!

Crystal May 23, 2011 at 4:32 am

hi! I appear to have the same flooring as you! I have one question, what in the heck do you use to remove bare foot marks. I seem to have smudges from feet all the time, the floor only looks good when Its wet :( care to share what you use? or do you have this issue? ha

Rachelle May 23, 2011 at 4:39 am

Wasn't it NIIIICE TODAY? Oh my gosh, we loved it. We cleaned the garage so I feel ya. But your yard looks so pretty! :)

Traci May 23, 2011 at 4:40 am

looks pretty normal to me! =)

'No boots' rings a bell… the harsh weather is finally over and we have bright sunny days in Michigan as well. Even my husband and I completed a lot of pending tasks!!

I would love to have a house like yours with a yard like that! I can understand how big a task mowing would have been but you did a wonderful job!!

The little net is just so lovely. Are those eggs blue for real or they appeared so in the pic?

Handy Man, Crafty Woman May 23, 2011 at 5:06 am

oh, I feel your pain on all of the boots and such. We live in New England. I did not put our boots away that long ago!! I need to find a better solution for shoes/boots near our door. ugh! I sooo wish we had a mudroom.

Also, I wish our grass looked that good! ;-) It did look pretty good for a while, but a really harsh winter did a number on it. So now we have some lawn work to do, when I'd really rather be doing other stuff!

Staci May 23, 2011 at 5:18 am

She's crossing the Delaware, isn't she?

Miranda May 23, 2011 at 5:37 am

Love the shoe organizer – what a great way to keep all the shoes organized…you wouldn't even want to see our front closet right now! And…your house (and land) is amazing!! Glad you had a productive day…Beyonce always helps :)

gin May 23, 2011 at 10:56 am

I hope y'all have a riding lawn mower!! Your home is beautiful however; and I love that shoe organizer. We need something like that for our hall closet; shoes are never taken off upstairs and we are forced to have to tote them upstairs.

Sharon @ Elizabeth & Co. May 23, 2011 at 12:40 pm

There is realy somethhing special about having a normal day!

kayla May 23, 2011 at 3:41 pm

Your home and lawn are beautiful!! However, that's a lot of grass to mow!! I can't wait to see the finished blanket, looks pretty!

rebekah May 23, 2011 at 5:40 pm

oh this is totally normal!! i've also been working around the house a LOT lately! updating and doing odd projects and much like you anything to put off mopping the floors!! there's just sooooo much tile and wood floors it takes forever! oh and on top of it our tile has texture.. yeah so getting into all those "beauty spots" well lets just say a swifter won't do the job!! nightmare! who buys Moroccan textured tile when they're raising their family who who??… um.. cough :)

Kaye May 23, 2011 at 5:44 pm

A big AMEN on the shoe organizing!

porkchoptuesday May 23, 2011 at 7:42 pm

Looks like a well spent weekend!
Where did you find your shoe storage? We soooo need something like that.

P.S. I have green grass envy.

Michelle May 23, 2011 at 7:45 pm

We have birds that make nests in our grill, too, but the nest is tiny! Like smaller than my fist! I would crap myself if I opened my grill to your huge nest!

Conspicuous Style Design Blog May 23, 2011 at 11:49 pm

Ouch.. that is a LOT of mowing! It is lovely though!

Erin @ His & Hers May 23, 2011 at 11:50 pm

You're hilarious. The picture of that insane nest (!) is only topped by the one of your daughter. She must have quite an imagination! :)

Miranda May 24, 2011 at 12:52 am

I have two shoe organizers just like that in our hall closet, and it annoys me to no end that the kids' shoes end up laying all over the entry area everyday regardless! I have been debating taking the shoe organizers out and just getting a big bin for each kid! Our houses look just the same, too, except different colors and you have dormer windows in the attic, which we don't. Do you, too, long to break out of the colonial mold in terms of the windows? And finally, yes, love this weather, but there's so much more yard work to do now! I leave the mowing to my husband.

Cam - Bibs & Baubles May 24, 2011 at 3:50 pm

i couldn't imagine having to cut all of that grass! on another note – it was a beyonce weekend over here too. so addictive!

Anonymous May 24, 2011 at 4:30 pm

what happened to show and share?!?! Is it over…? Great house btw

Amy Adkins May 26, 2011 at 2:10 am

Wow! I’ve never seen a nest so big. The last two springs we’ve opened our grill to find mice nests (including live mice). Not sure which is worse . . . birds or mice. Yikes!

Logan @ LifeforDessert June 10, 2011 at 2:12 am

That birds nest is stinking hilarious! Next up for your family menu…grilled eggs: a new twist on an old favorite! LOL! Just discovered you via Beth’s blog today…apparently I’ve been in a blog fog to have never been over here! “I’ll be BAAAck!”

Hetal September 22, 2011 at 8:23 am

Love the shoe stand. I am desperately looking for something like that. Can you please tell me where did you get it from?

Chris September 22, 2011 at 11:52 am

Yes, Hetal! I found it at Target. It’s actually two of them put together! Good luck!
