The Cinderella Chair

by Chris on August 10, 2010

Here she is. She may be the prettiest little thing in town right now, but she’s been the bane of my existence for months.  Don’t let her looks fool you.

french chair

Well, I guess her looks can fool you just a little bit.  ‘Cause she sho’ is pretty.

reupholstered chair

I feel like I struggle with so many things not turning out exactly as I had planned, but this one exceeded my expectations. I think it’s just the chair. Look at those curves! You just can’t go wrong with curves like that!

zebra pillow

To give her a smidge of bling, I purchased this zebra pillow on clearance at Wal-Mart. Perfection.brown zebra pillow

Oh wait. Did I say perfection? I meant that if you turn the lights down low and squint your eyes quite a bit. Believe me, she’s got her flaws.

refinished chair

As I gaze upon her beauty and bask in my accomplishment, something feels like it’s staring at me.  Do you see it?

louis philippe chair

Oh that’s right. I stupidly bought two chairs. My accomplishment is only an accomp. It’s half done! It’s the dishwasher filled, but not turned on! It’s the toilet paper put on the roll, but put on backwards! I curse you other chair!

 orange louis philippe chairs

I won’t let her bring me down (yet). For now, I appreciate that at least one is done, and it’s GAWGEOUS!  I’m also one step closer to finishing my craft room.  Not long, and she’ll be able to be revealed as well!finished french chair

Who knows what those girls were thinking, but the ladies behind The CSI Project have asked me to be a guest judge this week!  I think that’s too cool! Go check it out and link up your creative idea!

amycornwell August 10, 2010 at 12:12 pm

So cute! I have a chair, similar in upholstery and I don't know how to reupholster it. Can you tell me how you did yours? Did you take the existing fabric off? Here is what mine looks like and I have no idea how to do it!
Any advice would be greatly appreciated – yours are beautiful!

Green Gracie Home August 10, 2010 at 12:17 pm

That chair is GORGEOUS! You did a fantastic job. I also have two chairs that I want to paint and reupholster. Seeing your photo just gave me the motivation I needed. Good luck with chair #2!

Lila August 10, 2010 at 1:42 pm

I hate reupholstering chairs! I'm the worst at getting every little curve and wrinkle out! You did awesome!

Debbie August 10, 2010 at 3:45 pm

Beautiful job on the chair! I recently did 2 chairs also- which were sitting staring at me for a long while. I found that the second chair was A LOT easier to do -prob bc I had a plan the second time around LOL

jociegal August 10, 2010 at 4:39 pm

Hahaha – it looks great! Really, really great. Any tips on the how-tos of the project?

Oh, Chris. You never cease to amaze. But this time, you've outdone even YOU! Honestly, she's just beautiful–and that zebra pillow is just icing on a very, very yummy cake. Well done!!

Brittney August 10, 2010 at 5:16 pm

The chair looks fantastic! I love the pillow too. I totally feel your pain on the second chair. After finishing my first chair I almost cried thinking about all of the work to finish the second!!

Kathy @ Creative Home Expressions August 10, 2010 at 5:55 pm

She is beautiful, Chris! Flaws or not, I love it! You did a great job! Can't wait to see the other one. : ) You know, whenever you've recovered from doing this one and decide to move on. Maybe it's like childbirth, you forget the pain and do it again!

EMILY August 11, 2010 at 12:42 am

I have a dining chair with an upholstered back and i have no idea how to get it off. It has wood around it like your chair. It is like the cording is glued to the wood. i want to get the fabric off so i can paint it and reupholster it and make it look all cute but i don't know how. The seat doesn't unscrew either. it had a black liner material and under that there are springs (the kind that look like curved zigzags. I don't know if it is even possible to redo the thing. Anyway, I would love to hear more details on how you did your chair. It turned out great!

Jerri August 11, 2010 at 1:13 am

Natasha August 22, 2011 at 3:14 pm

Been searching for a chair like this EVERYWHERE!!! I love love love it! Do you ever sale any of your furniture? If not, do you have a break down of how you did this? I’m a arts and crafts lover but stuck to the simple stuff that only involve scissors and glue :) Would love to try my hand in something like this since I can’t find one in my price range anywhere!! Would love the help. Thanks.

Hannah April 26, 2012 at 4:42 pm

I have two chairs exactly like this and have been searching everywhere for a good tutorial! Would LOVE to know how you made this SO beautiful!
