I always struggle with personal stuff on here. It’s generally a decorating blog, but… A couple of weeks ago, I took my daughter to her first concert. We literally just walked in the door from Florida, and we were both exhausted. But for Taylor Swift? We pushed through.
I could go on and on about how our girls emulate the wrong images today and how we have to be very careful about what our daughters think is the right way to represent themselves, but let me just say that I couldn’t be more thankful that my little one is a Taylor Swift fan.
I’ve been to a LOT of concerts, so I was a little apprehensive about the other girls my little one might be seeing. We got there, and I was thrilled. No moms trying to look like their teenage daughters (well, that might be an overstatement); no teenagers trying to look like…well, something other than teenagers; no illegal substances pluming through the air.
It was just girls. Girls who are in love with love. Girls who believe they deserve to be treated right. Girls who are empowered by other girls. Alright. I’m getting preachy. I want to share this video of my little one at her first concert and how one brief moment solidified her love for Taylor Swift. Forever.
P.S. Don’t pay any attention to the cackly, overjoyed mom in the background.

oh. my. word! Your daughter is the cutest…and I’m 25, and I love Taylor Swift!! What a great “role model”…and how incredibly AWESOME is it that she hugged her!? AHHH!! Love it!!
Aw, as a mother of 2 girls who adore Taylor, it got a little dusty in here watching that. SO COOL.
My girls love Taylor Swift too. I was thinking about bringing them to a concert but I too wasn’t sure how that would be. I’ll have to look into it now, thanks!
Olivia is adorable! And she must have been over the moon thrilled! What a special memory for both of you!
aww…precious memory there!! My almost 7 year old LOVES Taylor Swift too and I am thrilled she picked her above all the others out there..lets hope she stays just as amazing and true to herself as she has this far!
Taylor really manages to strike that balance between being a “real person” and a music star, she really is fabulously grounded.
Love that your daughter had a good time at the concert!
This is too cute, I got teary eyed watching it! The joy in her eyes is too much…what a great memory!
My daughter and I both love Taylor Swift – our new fave this summer has been The Band Perry – Kimberly reminds us a lot of TS and their song “All Your Life” has become our song. If you’d like to hear them:

The video is priceless!! Your daughter’s expression – isn’t that what makes mommyhood so much fun, sharing the love!
xoxo michele
This absolutely made my day!
One of the only down sides to being a mom to all boys is that I have no excuse to be at a Taylor Swift concert! I love that you were able to take your little girl, and that she got a hug
How awesome is that? So sweet!
AW!!! That is awesome!! Love the look on her face!
Too fun!
Saw Taylor with my girl earlier this summer at her first concert! So amazing! That was the sweetest video ever! Your girl is adorable!
Enjoy every minute of it! There’s nothing like a Mama and her baby girl. That’s a truly unique relationship.
Thank you for the post!!! That is so awesome that your daughter got a hug from Taylor Swift, and to make it better you have it on video forever!!!
Wow, how awesome was that?! I am also taking my daughter (age 10) to her first ever concert, TAYLOR SWIFT!!!, October 8. Such an inspiring role model. We are both so excited!
How cool is that…what a special memory for your daughter. I am so glad she got to go and be hugged by Taylor Swift:):)
SO refreshing to read a positive review after I read the mostly scathing review on Huffington Post today.
I felt the same way when I took my daughter to Taylor! Love how refreshingly clean and sweet her music and the audience were!
PS your daughter is a cutie pie!
oh my goodness gracious!! How awesome for your sweet daughter!!!!
Oh my! I got a little teary eyed on that one!
How sweet that you were able to share this “special” moment with Olivia.
What a special mom/daughter date memory! Her sweet “expression of happy” warmed my heart and made me cry… How precious of a captured moment. Thanks for sharing your family.
That was awesome!
Great video.. How exciting for her.
OMG…Olivia hugged Taylor Swift! She must read your blog! lol! How special is Olivia!!!
Oh yeah. Taylor was all, “Oh my gosh! It’s Just a Girl’s daughter!” Funny, Ashley.:) Such a fun night!
VERY cool!!!! My daughter’s first concert was Taylor Swift ….such a good show! What a lucky girl to get a hug!
Very exciting!!! and for the “cackling” mom….completely justified.
Oh my goodness! Her face was priceless! Of course Taylor couldn’t resist!!!
Chris, that is just awesome. I can hardly believe it!
I don’t have daughters–just three sons–but all three of them love Taylor Swift. My oldest son is nearly as old as Taylor. He’s a musician, and he likes Taylor Swift not only because she’s a good singer but also because she’s a bona fide musician. (Of course, the fact that she is beautiful doesn’t hurt.)
Anyway, if I were a teenage boy listening to Taylor Swift’s music, I’d think about how I treated my girlfriend!
AWESOME!!!! Her expression is just the cutest!!!! How fun for you guys!
I’m a grown up girl and love the message she sends to all girls: little and grown up. What an amazing moment for your daughter!
Hold on…that was the CUTEST thing I have seen in a long time! Your daughter is absolutely adorable and the look on that face was priceless~! I have tears in my eyes and have replayed it four times now! They grow up too quickly. Enjoy it!!
You go on with your cackling, overjoyed self for days! That was great! What a fun moment for your daughter.
I loved that! I have four boys, ranging from 20 down to 12, and they all love Taylor Swift! (me too!)
WOW, how fortunate you captured that on video!! Her expression …priceless! Reason I’m crying…PMS? peri-menopause? unexplainable!!
OM Gosh! what a great memory for her! I’m thrilled for you both. She’s a cutie and so are you!
Oh my goodness, HOW STINKIN AWESOME! What a great memory for you and your daughter!
Love,
Traci @ Ordinary Inspirations
SUPER DUPER CUTE!!!

I love Taylor Swift! Love the look of sheer joy on your little gal’s face when Taylor hugged her! So awesome for her!
LOVE it!!!!! And I too am glad my daughter (who is almost 13) is a Taylor Swift fan!
That totally made me cry! Has your daughter come down from cloud nine yet?! or you?!!
Me too, Gemma! She’ll come in the room sometime and just say, “Mommy, can you believe that Taylor Swift HUGGED me??” It’s too funny!
How awesome for her! Brought tears to my eyes. So sweet!
Let me tell you what I did not expect to happen when I started reading your post – I did NOT expect to cry. But man oh man, I just immediately cried seeing that video. I don’t even know that I could recognized a Taylor Swift song, though I have heard she is great. After, reading how fabulous the concert was, and then to see your daughter’s smile… brought me to tears. Happy tears.
I love that, Maureen! I still cry at it, too, and I’ve seen it 30 times! You’re too sweet. Thank you!
This totally brought me to tears. Her expression, the excitement in your voice, what a memory! And I love your little side editorial
I have two girls who LOVE Taylor Swift and so do I!!! We went to just see her in 2008 when she opened for Keith Urban. She does empower the girls (and moms)! I can’t say enough about her…especially now that she hugged your daughter. Thanks for sharing.
Same here, Cindy! She’s just fabulous.
i love this post. and i love taylor too..i hope she continues to be a great role model. your daughter is ADORABLE! (:
xoxo, kelli & kristi
Thank you!! My fingers are crossed that she doesn’t change. Girls need good role models, eh? Thanks for stopping by!
I love your crazy voice on that – it cracks me up. I love Taylor Swift – it’s so rare to see such a good girl not going crazy from fame. Her and Carrie Underwood. How cool are you to take her to this? My mom would have NEVER ever done this!
Yeah, I’m pretty sure my mom wouldn’t have taken me either.
That cackle. Good lord. Just focus on Olivia.
A hug and you caught it on tape?! Amazing!
I LOVED it!! Your daughter is so precious…and I would have cackled too! I mean sheesh…how many people can watch their daughter experience something like that?! She will never forget that as long as she lives!
Hugs to you girlie!
missy
You’re right, Missy! I’m pretty sure neither one of us will forget about it. What a great night. Thank you for your sweet comment.
I’m taking my little girl next month! I’m so glad to know that it was such a great experience for you…makes me more excited!
Let me know what you think, Jen! I hope it’s as great an experience for you as it was for us!
I love Taylor Swift for the same reason. I was so excited for Olivia I almost cried. That look of pure joy was so beautiful. Thank you very much for sharing.
Kimberly, my husband and I have watched it no less than 30 times JUST to see that look over and over! It’s heart melting. Thank you!!!
That’s wonderful! I hope she remembers forever!
On a side-note, I have to ask – was this the same concert?
http://new.music.yahoo.com/blogs/ourcountry/94419/taylor-swift-suffers-wardrobe-malfunction-on-tour-stop/
It wasn’t, Karissa (thank goodness). But you’re right–she’ll remember it forever!
We are big Taylor Swift fans here as well. Going to our 3rd concert next Sat! And Dad goes too!
I have to give credit to her parents, they obviously did something right!
Oh, Chris! That is AWESOME that you caught it on tape!!!
Taylor Swift did a fundraiser here in Nashville in May to raise money for tornado victims. The concert was supposed to be their final dress rehearsal before kicking off the tour. It was awesome, I’m so glad we took Olivia (her first concert too)…I appreciate Taylor Swift so much for being such a great role model!
Agreed on all accounts, Mandy! Thanks for stopping by!
Oooo.. your daughter was sooooo happy to be hugged by Taylor Swift and why not!! A moment to be cherished for ever.
I would have gone crazy if I were in her place.
Hello friend! It’s been a while since I’ve stopped by. Your blog is still amazing!
I just took my daughter to see Taylor Swift in Chicago, and it was really great. I liked her before, but I’m a big fan now. I love the message of self respect she gives to her fans. (Her song telling off John Mayer was brilliant!) She is an impressive young lady.
Blessings,
Heather
Hello, Friend is right! It HAS been awhile! What a nice surprise to see your comment! Thanks for stopping by, Heather!
amazballs. that made me a little teary!
Took my daughters to their first ever concert earlier this year – Taylor Swift, here in N Ireland! It is not often our musical tastes cooincide!
We weren’t quite close enough for a hug, but loved every minute of the concert.
I agree. The hug was certainly a bonus, but we would have loved it regardless! Glad you got to see her, too!
Good for you! I love your message. So cute to see your video. It actually brought a tear to my eye. You are a great mom!
