Show and Share Day (Come over!)

by Chris on August 5, 2011

I’m busy catching up from our trip, so projects are slim. I get lots of messages that people like to hear about my personal life (really?), so I thought I’d share what kept us busy last weekend.

warrior

It’s no secret that my husband and I are polar opposites (I don’t know how, but it works). He’s aggressive, brave, and competitive. I’m scared of a spider; I’ve been known to cry over a hangnail; and I just want everyone to get along.

warrior

For reasons I will never understand, he competed in what’s called a “Warrior Dash”. It was in our state for the first time ever, and it was the second largest turnout they’ve ever had. Who knew that so many people wanted to be “warriors”.  The race kind of looked like this…

warrior dash

warrior dash mud bog warrior dash rope climb

warrior dash

And this is what they got for competing. That’s his cousin with him. The craziness must run in the family.

warrior dash

This is how they cleaned up afterwards. What is wrong with these people? I was just a bystander, and I started to gag at some of the bare feet in that.

warrior dash showers

Speaking of feet, this is one of several piles of shoes that are left behind from being mud covered (don’t worry—they’re washed and donated).

muddy shoes

He may be a polar opposite from me, but he’s my polar opposite.

beauty and the beast  just a girl

My only concern now? I’ve got two little ones who think they’re going to be the next warrior. I think I’m outnumbered.

kids

(Ahhh..the tooth. It’s a long story, but it’s temporary. It adds to the effect, no?) It’s been rough catching up in blog world lately! Show off what you’ve been up to!

My cuzzy and her boyfriend were there too! Me? I was home reading the blog how to spray paint my mirror oil rubbed bronze.. ;-)

Thanks for the different pics of the same event. I looked for her in your shots.. no luck…

Desiree Campbell August 5, 2011 at 9:38 am

I LOVE this post…so fun and cute!

Thank you for sharing it and for hosting another great party!

Kasey August 5, 2011 at 10:09 am

Ooooh how cool! I have heard about the Warrior Dash but it’s not coming anywhere near where I live. Tough Mudder is though and I so want to do it lol. Happy Friday!

Chris August 5, 2011 at 3:22 pm

Oh Kasey. They were just registering for Tough Mudder last night! How funny! Well…good luck if you decide to do it! :)

Hani @ craftionary August 5, 2011 at 10:30 am

This looks like so much fun.. I love your cute warrior family the most in the last picture.. Thanks for hosting!
Have a great day!

Stacey August 5, 2011 at 10:33 am

Soem of the girls in my fitness ministry group did the same kind of challenge…I knew that hat look familiar! Looks brutal…your husband must be in tip top shape to be able to do all that was asked of him during that competition!!
Stacey of Embracing Change

Jackie August 5, 2011 at 11:04 am

Here we call them mud runs and they’re generally done in military style PT clothes. Very fun to watch!

Erika August 5, 2011 at 11:20 am

This is the sort of thing my husband thinks is fun! In fact, he is working out right now with his crazy buddies….men!
And what a great effect the tooth has in the photo:)

Jen D. August 5, 2011 at 11:43 am

Fun post! My husband and I did the Warrior Dash with some friends in PA this year. It was a BLAST and I can’t wait to do it again next year. It was physically challenging but mentally challenging as well to get over some of the obstacles.

Southern Gal August 5, 2011 at 11:49 am

How long was the course? They have a Mud Run around here that my son competes in. They’ve had to make it twice a year since it’s so popular. They increased the distance to 5 miles, too. Yep, I’m happy to watch from the sidelines, too. The missing tooth is the perfect touch for that last photo!

karla August 5, 2011 at 12:13 pm

Oh my goodness. How fun and nasty all at the same time. So I’m excited to hear the tooth story. The first pic,he most def. has his tooth in and by the end, it’s gone? Gotta know what happened!

Kala August 5, 2011 at 12:26 pm

Oops, I forgot to select a thumbnail for my project (#58)…sorry about that:) I tried to delete and redo, but don’t think I can. As you can see, I am a newbie at this.

The Mud Run actually looks like fun:)

life as leah August 5, 2011 at 12:28 pm

LOVE the pictures-and your husband looks totally hot as a warrior! I bet you’re proud, somewhere deep down? lol!! The one with the two kids and their warrior faces is priceless!

Ashley August 5, 2011 at 12:53 pm

My husband is dying to the Warrior Dash too!

Irene August 5, 2011 at 1:20 pm

I love it! I am actually doing that race next year. *so excited*. It’s on my bucket list.

Maury @ A Fabuless Home August 5, 2011 at 1:43 pm

For the record, I would TOTALLY be on the sidelines with you taking pictures. EW. Thanks for hosting!

Jenny@EvolutionofStyle August 5, 2011 at 1:55 pm

Love it! I have wanted to try one of these Warrior Dashes, but we don’t have one nearby. It looks like crazy fun to me. Thanks for sharing and thanks for hosting – always love your Show & Share Days. :-)

Jo August 5, 2011 at 2:08 pm

Thanks for hosting, looks like you are enjoying summer!

Deneen August 5, 2011 at 2:12 pm

Thanks for the party!

Hollie August 5, 2011 at 2:16 pm

Your kids definitely look like warriors-in-training… thanks for hosting!

Toya August 5, 2011 at 2:19 pm

I too would not be caught slinging myself in all that mud, but it sure did look like it was fun to watch . And who wouldn’t want a fuzzy viking hat? The kids can’t wait for their fuzzy viking hats, you’ve got a beautfiul family. Enjoy your summer!!!

Laura Wotruba August 5, 2011 at 2:22 pm

Thanks so much for posting these pictures! My hubby did the Warrior Dash last weekend, too, but my girlfriend and I decided to hang out by our pool with our kids instead of dragging 4 kids under 6 to the event. I felt kind of bad about not being there to cheer on my warrior, even though I made them a great dinner. It was fun to see your pictures : )

the cape on the corner August 5, 2011 at 2:29 pm

oh my gosh, my first thought when seeing them all crawling thru the mud-YUCK! to voluntarily do this??? ca-razy is right!

Bossy Betty August 5, 2011 at 3:16 pm

Loved seeing the family!!! The Warrior Man cleans up very well, I am sure.

christen August 5, 2011 at 3:23 pm

My friend Shelley is right next to your husband in the first two pics! So funny! She had a blast : )

Chris August 5, 2011 at 5:42 pm

Okay, that’s too weird, Christen. What are the chances? :)

Ami w/AliLilly August 5, 2011 at 3:25 pm

WOW!! That is quite a warrior you got their! AND your too lil warriors are so CUTE!!! Thanks for hosting, Chris!! :)

Sallie August 5, 2011 at 3:29 pm

I’ll never understand why some people think that’s fun!

Stephanie August 5, 2011 at 3:50 pm

Thanks for hosting this fun party! I am a new follower here.

Chris August 5, 2011 at 5:42 pm

Welcome, Stephanie! I’m glad you’re joining!

Christy August 5, 2011 at 3:57 pm

My husband is SO signed up to do the Warrior Dash in September. :) I am also scared of spiders. LOL

[email protected] August 5, 2011 at 4:27 pm

My husband and I are totally opposite that way too! He is all about competition and being tough. Me not so much. Love the hats they got at the end. So funny.

Jenna August 5, 2011 at 4:50 pm

TOOOO funny about the Warrior Dash! Wow…what a mess! Lol! What’s even funnier, is I just threw a mud run birthday party for my 5 year old. But it was waaaayyyy tamer than all that. :) Going to link it up!

Chris August 5, 2011 at 5:40 pm

Now that sounds like a fun birthday party, Jenna! My son would have loved that!

Barbara Ann August 5, 2011 at 5:09 pm

Love your daughter’s face in the pic! So great!

BTW- if your husband doesn’t CrossFit now, I think he’d be spot on for doing it. It sounds like it’d be right up his alley. Might want to see if there’s a CrossFit near you.

Have a great weekend, and thanks for always posting stuff that makes me smile!!! Go Nemesis!!!

Denise August 5, 2011 at 5:21 pm

I just *love* that your man is so…manly! This looks like the ultimate fun for a warrior, and your man definitely is one.

Chris August 5, 2011 at 5:41 pm

Me too, Denise! What can be so very frustrating about him sometimes is also what makes him so attractive! A girly girl needs a manly man to keep her balanced, I guess! :)

The Mom @ Babes in Hairland August 5, 2011 at 3:43 pm

Oh my goodness! That is the most awesome thing ever! My husband would love to participate in something like that – despite the fact that he’s not as in shape as your husband! But he loves to get down & dirty! So fun of you to share with us “behind the scenes” of your life! What a blast. I could never handle crawling through mud or any of that though — ack! Thanks for hosting!

S. Christian August 5, 2011 at 4:57 pm

You need to repost thar second picture of your husband side by side with the nemesis ……there’s a strange resemblance…. No? Lol. Looks like a good time!

{trulie-scrumptious} August 5, 2011 at 5:12 pm

That is AWESOME! haha I don’t think my husband would do that…your kids are so adorable, what a cute fam!

Laura W. August 5, 2011 at 6:10 pm

Lol, wow, and I can’t get over ALL those shoes! Btw, my husband has a tattoo of a scorpion in the same place, except for his is obviously a bit different version of a scorpion. He got it about a decade ago or longer. Crazy!

Chris August 5, 2011 at 10:07 pm

What is it with scorpions, eh? It was his first one that he got 20 years ago, and he’s gotten 5 more since. Again…opposites. I don’t even have my ears pierced because it hurts!!!!! Seriously!

Layla August 5, 2011 at 6:52 pm

SUCH an awesome post! (as usual!)
I love seeing pics of you and your fam….even the dirty ones!
Wait.
That came out wrong.

You know what I mean!
;-)

Chris August 5, 2011 at 10:03 pm

I love it when you comment. It makes me feel worthy. And funny. And dirty? I think the pictures you speak of are for another blog. :)

Madigan at madiganmade August 5, 2011 at 8:12 pm

Wow… was that a bed of fire? I am so impressed. Wait, I think!? Haha.

Looks like it was a fun (and dirty) day! Have a wonderful weekend and thanks for hosting.

Jordan August 5, 2011 at 9:39 pm

I mean dang, look at your daughter’s arm!! Hello tricep! And yes, I love hearing about your personal life bc you are HILARIOUS! I laugh OUT LOUD at your posts. My husband always wants to know what Im looking at and then just doesnt get it…to which I say “you have to know her” you know… like I do! Haha!

Chris August 5, 2011 at 10:04 pm

In order to remind my husband of how cool I am, I just read him your comment! Thank you, Jordan! I love it!

Tammy August 5, 2011 at 9:46 pm

What a cute post. I’m with you though.. I would have done good just watching that event. Waaay too much mud for me!! But what a cute family you have, thanks for sharing them with us, and thanks for hosting another great link party! Have a great weekend :)

Chris August 5, 2011 at 10:05 pm

Thank you, Tammy! I’m excited to go through all the links. Ready for some inspiration! :)

Athena August 5, 2011 at 11:07 pm

That’s some rough stuff, thanks for hosting! :)

HouseTalkN August 6, 2011 at 11:36 am

I AM FRIGHTENED! My so called friend just recruited me to do one of these Warrior 5k’s! What kind of friends do I have?
What a great example of “Living Large” for your kiddos!
Thank you for hosting!

Angela August 6, 2011 at 2:51 pm

I’m from Michigan too, and did the Warrior Dash last weekend as well. My kids and husband came and watched. So on Thursday there was another race in the area and they had a kids race afterwards, so I asked my son (3) if he wanted to do a race and his reponse was ‘YES! I want to run through the mud!’ Too funny!

Tanya Anurag August 8, 2011 at 4:49 am

Woooaaa woooaaa… that looks like some real fun!! The picture with your kids in it is adorable!! Love the expressions :)

Richella at Imparting Grace August 8, 2011 at 6:07 pm

Your photos are just priceless, Chris. I think I’ve mentioned before how much your kiddos look like their dad–does everyone tell you that? But, honestly, if a dad can look good even covered in mud, that’s not a bad legacy! Your family is just beautiful.

You look elegant even with mud on your nose, by the way. :)

Cris August 10, 2011 at 12:00 pm

I loved doing the Warrior Dash. I wish I had as many pictures as you do (maybe you can come next time and be my photog, lol?). It was a total blast and soo much fun! Check out my after pic here: http://www.momnonstop.com/2011/04/weve-been-busy-just-to-catch-up-monday.html

Chris August 10, 2011 at 12:08 pm

Cris, I took almost 200 pictures! That was a mere sampling. :) With a race like that, you just keep taking pictures, hoping that you get a good one. I just checked out your pic! That is too cool! I don’t know how you do it, but I think it’s awesome that you did! Good job!

Hilani August 11, 2011 at 8:34 am

Love the quick Share and Show. :) I’m scared now, I have a warrior dash on the calendar for next weekend…. LOL

Susan August 11, 2011 at 1:10 pm

My husband (of 36 years) and I are opposites too, he’s a hunter, and I have been known to fuss over a paper cut! As for your hubby’s missing tooth…not to worry, we watch Swamp People. (BTW, he’s a hunk…your husband, not the Swamp People)

Jessica @ Decor Adventures August 11, 2011 at 3:34 pm

My friend and her man are doing the dash this weekend!

So umm, did you notice your follower count went up by showing pics of your hubs like that? Ha!

Chris August 11, 2011 at 10:12 pm

Ha! That’s funny, Jessica. Well said. :)

Jordan August 11, 2011 at 10:44 pm

Just saw this! I wanted to say how much I adore this post since my husband is OBSESSED with the Warrior Dash. Of course him and his friends only do it in their underwear. Of course they LOVE the helmet… :) men are men. Some of the costumes just KILL me though!

Catherine August 15, 2011 at 9:09 am

This is so funny. My husband is a crazy, tattooed, handsome hunter kind of a guy too! He would loooove the warrior challenge. I am like you. I teach high school English. And since we have one son, I feel realllly outnumbered around here too. I am definitely becoming a follower!

Chris August 15, 2011 at 12:20 pm

Ha! I love it, Catherine! We’re twinsies! Welcome!

Brandy August 15, 2011 at 4:22 pm

Hey Chris! I’ve been a follower of your blog for awhile now & just love it!
I was so excited to see this post too b/c my husband is actually doing the warrior dash in TN in Sept! He’s crazy excited and tried to get me to do it but I told him I would just watch the kids from the sidelines. :) I showed him your post & he loved it! Thanks!

Brandy

tammy August 20, 2011 at 5:11 pm

you crack me up! love the part ‘ah the tooth’, i can just hear your voice. i think we have the same hubby! lol polar opposites, are a good thing!

Chris August 20, 2011 at 8:27 pm

They sure are, Tammy! I certainly couldn’t be married to someone as sensitive as me. :) It’d be horrible! Ha! Thanks for stopping by!

Jen October 3, 2011 at 8:59 pm

I did the Super Spartan Utah this summer. Very similar to the Warrior Dash only 2.5 times longer. (Just under 9 miles). I was rinsing off my mud-covered, tired, aching body in the straight mountain run off (read: COLD) and looked around to discover I was the only girl in the open-air showers at that moment. I turned to the random guy next to me (my husband was within earshot) and said, “You know, this is not how I pictured showering with 50 men.” To which he replied, “Even if someone wanted to have an erotic thought, the water is too damn cold.” Congrats to your husband and you ought to think about doing it with him next year.

Chris October 3, 2011 at 10:59 pm

What a great story, Jen! That was funny! There is not one ounce of desire in me for this type of competition. My husband is doing the Tough Mudder in February which is longer than the Warrior Dash. Needless to say, he’s hooked. Me? Not so much. I love to watch, but no competing for me. Kudos to you for doing it! I admire your desire. Wish I had some. :)
