Hey there! Some time ago, my best friend and I decided that we were going to start investing in “adult makeup”. That meant that we were going to buy eye shadow for more than $4.99 at the grocery store. I was a pretty strong hold out, but I’m here to tell you…it’s nice.
I was curious what all my friends were wearing. What’s their makeup routine? Are they buying makeup for more than $4.99? So I reached out to some of the most knowledgeable bloggers I know. Women I learn from. And quite frankly–women I adore.
My friends Sarah, Kate, Courtney, and Beth are going to be sharing their makeup bags with you today, so click on over to see what they have to show you! Needless to say, I chose some beautiful women, eh?
Ok, here we go. This is all my makeup laid out for you. I haven’t been in “adult makeup world” for very long, but I do know I use some awesome products!
I use Urban Decay foundation, and I love it. I’ve actually talked about it as a must buy before. I live in Michigan, so it’s not like I walk around getting tan every day. I use Too Faced bronzer in certain areas to keep me from looking dead. It is the FIRST bronzer I found that is literally not orange (finally!), and it smells like chocolate. Not joking. The Fit Me translucent powder is a newer purchase. It’s awesome! I use it just around my eyes and on my forehead to set my foundation. And it’s inexpensive. Maybelline for the win.
I started using this Tartelette eyeshadow by Tarte, and I’m pretty sure I’ll never use another eye shadow palette again. I’m not a fan of shimmery eyeshadow. Well, really my wrinkles aren’t a fan of them. So when I saw that these beautiful colors were all in matte, I was sold.
My other favorite eye shadow palette is Urban Decay Naked Basics. I’ve abandoned it for a minute for my new purchase, but you can clearly see that I love it. Again with the matte. And it stays on SO well. *Not pictured: Urban Decay eye primer. I swear by it but forgot to photograph it. I’ve mentioned it in my favorite things post before, and I still use it.
And now for what I call the “finishers”. I have NO loyalty to lipstick. I’m using Loreal right now, but give it ten minutes. That’ll change. I blend Loreal 800 with a topper of Loreal 560–I bought them and didn’t like either one alone. 🙂 I do have loyalty, however, to my Nivea Sheer Berry lip balm. I buy three of them at a time so I have them all over–my car, classroom, home. I can’t get enough of it.
I also love my mascara. I use Maybelline Rocket on my top lashes and Maybelline Great Lash on the bottom ones. That seems high maintenance, doesn’t it? The rocket mascara is just a little too heavy for my bottom lashes. I mean, I’ll use it if I have to. #firstworldproblems Finally, I haven’t found a blush I like. Any recommendations? I like my Ulta shade, but it doesn’t go on very well. I need a lot for it to show up.
I’m big on drawer dividers, so this is how I store my makeup. I guess it’s a good thing I don’t have a lot ’cause this fits perfectly. If I’m late for work, half of this gets thrown into my makeup bag, and I run out the door. That tends to happen a lot.
This divider sits over my jewelry drawer. See all my jewelry? #hangsheadinshame
Bonus! I know this is a makeup post, but I thought I’d share the other products I use. I can’t say enough good things about Neutrogena makeup remover towelettes. I use them every night to remove my makeup, and I don’t have to rub crazy on my eyes for them to work. Score.
As for my anti-wrinkle creams? I got both of them for free, so I use them. And I love them. Paula’s Choice Retinol Serum is something I will purchase. I really do think it’s making a difference in my skin, and I love how it feels. The Eucerin Anti-Wrinkle? Meh. I’ll be looking for something else, but I still use it.
Whew! That was a lot of words. Before I go, I’m sharing one more thing. Makeup brushes. I bought a makeup brush set for $11.00 at Amazon, and it works beautifully. I’ve been using Urban Decay’s foundation brush, and I love it. However, I find that this set works very well. It actually tells you on the brush what you’re supposed to be using it for. That’s really good for someone who hasn’t been in the adult makeup world for long, ya know? Just some advice for you! I hope you have fun reading all the makeup recommendations! I know I’ll have my pen and paper ready!
