I have a Silhouette, and I’m not afraid to use it!

by Chris on June 18, 2010

That’s right, folks.  This new beauty is a part of the Just a Girl household, and consider this fair warning.  I’m filled to the BRIM with ideas, and I imagine you’ll be seeing a lot of them in the future.

I’ll tell ya right now.  I was so nervous as I turned the machine on that I was seriously sweating.  This whole “be creative—the world is in the palm of your hands” kind of thing was a lot of pressure.  So I decided to start out slow.  Enter: a bag and vinyl.

Shapoodle!  For $1.78 I now have a personalized Detroit Tigers gift bag AND my husband will think I’m cool for making it.  Because I am cool for making it.

For the “special” part of the gift, I decided to use some heat transfer to make my own ribbon.  Here’s my Ikea version of directions…

Add some trim, let the kids add some stickers, and call it good.  Well, then listen to your husband pout and whine because he wants to open it now.  “It’s not fair to make him wait two days.”

Happy Father’s Day!!

Ha! Ikea style directions ~ Love it, Chris! Yeah, so, I don't know what a Silhouette is; but then again 6 months ago I didn't know what a Cricut was either {and I want one, but don't want one since it is not something I'd use a lot and it costs a bit}.

Michelle June 18, 2010 at 5:36 pm

You can just pack that right up and send it to our house. Dave loves the Tigers and would die to get a gift bag like that!

Gabby June 18, 2010 at 5:42 pm

I don't know what a Silhouette is either. I'm gonna have to Google it now.

Amber June 18, 2010 at 5:57 pm

Totally Jealous. I want one.

Jana June 18, 2010 at 5:58 pm

I've had my Silhouette for over a year now and could.not.live.without.it. Seriously, I think it's my favorite thing I own, and the possibilities are ENDLESS! Hope you enjoy it!

Kendra@My Insanity June 18, 2010 at 6:07 pm

So jealous!!! Can't wait to see what all you come up with!

Irene June 18, 2010 at 6:08 pm

Chrsi,

Why did you decide on the Silhouette, compare to the cri cut machine?

Hayley June 18, 2010 at 6:09 pm

Oh, I love my Silhouette too! I bought one instead of a Cricut and I'm so glad I did! Endless possibilities!

Hayley June 18, 2010 at 6:12 pm

Oh, and for everyone that doesn't know what a Silhouette is, it's like a Cricut, except you design everything on your computer, so you can do just about anything! And you don't have to buy cartridges to use fonts like on the Cricut. You can buy individual images online, or download free fonts online, or make custom cut outs from JPeg files! Love love love my Silhouette!!!

Jeanne~

I bought the mailbox a year ago in the dollar section at Target. Sometimes they still have them, though. Good luck!

janimal June 21, 2010 at 2:30 pm

Gosh, Ohave been thinking about a craftcutting machine for a while but didn't know what to get. The Silhouette seems so cool!

Jilly Beanz Thingz June 22, 2010 at 2:23 am

I think I need one of these machines. My girlfriend has one, but I can't be at her house every night! LOL Love your creative use with it.

Cindy June 22, 2010 at 2:28 am

Can I ask what made you chose the Silhouette versus The Cricut? Is there something that this does that the Cricut doesn't and vice versa?

Jenny June 22, 2010 at 4:58 pm

I'm in love! I hadn't ever heard of a Silhouette until reading your post!

LOVE IT!

Thank you!
