FAQs
It can be a full-time job answering all the e-mails I get with questions about particular things. Unfortunately, I already have a full-time job. In an effort to answer your questions more efficiently and spare my sanity, I thought I’d answer the most frequently asked questions. I hope this helps!
All the paint colors that I know for this house can be found here.
What kind of camera do I use? I write adoringly about it here, here, and here. It’s a Canon T1i, and I can’t recommend it enough. Great investment.
What kind of paint did you use on your door (more here) and black furniture?
You can find more information on the buffet here and here.
It’s Benjamin Moore’s Metal and Wood paint. I don’t get it mixed. I simply get it in a black base paint. I’ve also been asked where I buy it. My town has a local paint store that sells Benjamin Moore paint exclusively. From what I understand, you cannot get it at a “big box” store. You can go here to find locations near you.
The old “Where did you find that” series. Here we go.
My daughter’s bed. After searching and searching, I found it here. I purchased it with the trundle, and it came with a free mattress. It’s worked out perfectly for her friends.
My daughter’s bedding. It’s the Annabel duvet from Serena and Lily. I’m absolutely in love with it! You can find all the other resources for this room here.
That tree. Yup, I painted it. I’m not sure of the original source I used, but I have seen it in vinyl on Etsy. However, I can show you how I did it. You’ll find the tutorial here.

Garage door address numbers. And what font are they?
I got them from Wonderfully Wordy. The font is just from my Word program. It’s Modern No. 20.
The glass/vinyl calendar in the mudroom.
I ordered it from Say it with Style off Etsy. I absolutely love it!
The “mirror” in the dining room.is actually a candle platter. The other pictures don’t do it justice, but it has a gorgeous pattern in it! I found it at Ikea for $15.00—on sale from $25.00.
The DIY Billy bookcases took up a couple of posts. You can read all about them here and here.
What are all the measurements of the board and batten in your dining room?
Luckily (for me) I already typed up some posts that answer all the questions about that room. You can see them here and here.

Hi – I’d love to know what type of camera you use now – what you had before too! Thanks!
Sorry for the late answer, Kristen. Must have missed this. I have a Canon T1i, and I love it. My older camera was also a Canon. A Powershot 640, maybe? It died, and I don’t have it anymore. I can’t really blame it, though. My husband dropped it on cement. RIP, little Canon.
How do you keep your home so clutter free?? Where is all of your “stuff”? My home is getting cluttered because my mom passed a month ago and I’m bringing home too much stuff. Let me know your organizing secret. Thanks!
Well, if you could see it right now, Judy, you’d know that no home is clutter free–especially mine! I am lucky to have lots of storage space, but purging is the key! Easier said than done, I know.
I love your girls room and want to paint my daughters room the same color…can you tell me what it is? Also, how did you do the tree mural on the wall? Thanks so much!!!
Hi Joy! I’ve done posts on both of the questions you asked. There is a search bar on the left side of my blog that will help you! Thanks for asking!
Excellent, user-friendly, thoroughly tutorial-ed site!! You’ve set the bar for others pretty high and, hopefully, they’ll follow your example. Thanks.
Hi Chris-
Did I miss the post about the details of how you refinished your kids’ bathroom vanity? I love your style! I am in the midst of renovating our bathroom, and would like to repaint our 1991 vintage builder grade oak vanity. Thanks!
Any chance, in your leisure
time, might you tell me where you found your “costal bathroom” rugs? I’ve looked everywhere to no avail. Thanks for your consideration. Marcia
You bet, Marcia! Found them at World Market. I did a resource list in one of the bathroom posts. Thanks!
Hi! I absolutely love the china cabinet that you refinished for your daughter’s room! I have been wanting to go from the dark wood finish to a crisp white for my armoire & dresser. It seems so overwhelming! What did you use to strip the finish? Do you have a tutorial for refinishing the china cabinet? If so, I would LOVE it! Thanks for sharing your wonderful projects!
Where do you find your wooden pallets? Every where I go they won’t give them to me as they say they return them for $$$. Thanks.
Do you ever use a paint sprayer? What kind?
Hello! I found your site through pinterest. I LOVED your info on the boart and batten and I sent the link to my mother in law. It worked for me when I sent it to her (yesterday afternoon) but today this is the message that comes up when I click on either link you have listed above
You 404’d it. Gnarly, dude.
Surfin’ ain’t easy, and right now, you’re lost at sea. But don’t worry; simply pick an option from the list below, and you’ll be back out riding the waves of the Internet in no time.
Hit the “back” button on your browser. It’s perfect for situations like this!
Head on over to the home page.
Punt.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. She REALLY wants to do this to a room in her home. Thank you!
Amber, I believe the links have been fixed. Are you able to access it yet? I hope so!
Where did you find the framed monograms in the kids bath?
Here you go, Michelle!

I love the color of your hardwood floors. Could you please share the name/stain color? Thank you! Your home is so beautiful!
I wish I could tell you, Darlene. I looked all over the house for information on the flooring, and I couldn’t find a thing. I’m sorry! Thank you for stopping by!
I’d love to know where you got the white shelf with dark pegs for the updated bathroom.
Hi, Karen. I actually made it myself. I used an old wall shelf and attached it to a plank of wood with screws and liquid nails. After attaching the black knobs from Hobby Lobby, we literally just screwed it to the wall. Hope that helps!
Hi.
I came across your before/after picture of clean grout on Pinterest.
It directed me to your blog. I searched your blog for two hours and unfortunately I am still unable to locate the directions. The original was on Pinterest. Will you please share?
My home has 800 sq ft of tile. I cleaned and sealed the tile in 2008. However, one day I was in a cleaning frenzy and used Mr Clean to mop the floors. This stripped everything and now I am left with dirty grout:(
Btw, I love your blog! Great info.
Thanks for your help,
AA
Chris,
Love the Costal Bathroom for kids! Do you find it hard to keep the black cabinets clean? (Finger Prints, Toothpaste:)
I thought it might be a problem, too, Cynthia. I am happy to report that there are NO issues whatsoever. I wipe down their drawers once a week, and that’s it!
Do you have an FAQs for your son’s bedding? Did you make the dust ruffle.
I need to do a FAQ for it, but I found it at Meijer (a local grocery store actually). It’s a Katie Brown dust ruffle. Good luck!
Very good blog post. Keep writing.
Hi Chris–I absolutely LOVE your daughters room & am hoping to do something similar for our little girl. Would you mind telling me where you found the pink and white paisley bedding? It looks perfect with the paint color! Thank you.
I found it at Selena and Lily, Ali! I just love it! Good luck!
Found it!! Thank you so much!
Hey Chris,
I recently stumbled upon your website and absolutely love it! I will be working on your toilet paper wall art very shortly, after i figure out what colors I want to do it in
My question is about living room storage. I recently moved in with my boyfriend and painted the living room, put new curtains up, new couches, and the toilet paper art will go in there as well. The only thing I can’t think of how to do it how to organize all of his DVD’s and games for the Wii, PlayStation and his PC. I was thinking about putting baskets for them in but I don’t have very much room to put another piece of furniture and I hate putting DVD’s on shelves because they always seem to fall over. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Hi Maureen, Thanks so much for your nice comment! Unfortunately, you have the same question we all have–how do we hide all this stuff? Here’s a link to something I did to hide the games/movies. http://justagirlblog.com/simplify-101/
As for other things, is there a hallway closet you can put them in? I agree that you shouldn’t have to buy more furniture to store things. They have storage books now that are so nice, you can just put them on a shelf or table. They look like books! I hope this helps!
Hi Chris,
I have been using your daughter’s room for inspiration! Thank you so much for all of the great details!! Can you tell me where you found your pink/coral colored curtains?
Thank you!!
Christy
Here you go, Christy! http://justagirlblog.com/girls-room-resource/

I would love to know where you got that pink frame that you used for the magnet board?
Hi Heidi. I found it at a consignment store for $7.00. Thanks!
I love the “And…along came a spider” picture – any chance you could send me a picture of it from a straight on angle?
Thanks.
How did you make the burlap curtains in the bathroom adn get the circle holes for the metal part?
I just got my October better homes and gardens mag and I LOVE your bedroom. Could you tell me where you got the rug and your bed spread.
http://justagirlblog.com/gray-orange-teen-room/ Thank you, Kim! I linked to a post about the rug, and I found the bedspread at Ikea. Good luck!
Hi Chris! Quick question: I love the pictures of your garage entry door. You mentioned using extra paint from your mudroom on the walls. How much of your garage walls did you paint? Or did you just paint the wall with the door? Thanks so much!! Your ideas are wonderful!
LOVE your decorating! Making me feel very inspired… I get Better Homes and Gardens and have given the pallet idea to a few people. Am wondering if you can tell me where the lamps are from (specifically the orange shades) and the gray flannel/felty looking bedding. Thanks for your time!
Heather Roney
Absolutely LOVR the “And…along came a spider” plaque!!!!!!
Is there any way I could get a copy of it?????
Thank you so much!!!!!
Ugh. I would love to, Kim. Unfortunately, it’s a sore subject in our house right now. I have searched every nook and cranny of this place, and I can’t find it ANYwhere. I’ve put out an APB on it, but everyone has come up short. I’ll let you know if it shows up!
OOPS!!! I meant I LOVE the plaque. Sorry!!!
My mom is IN LOVE with the white antiqued cabinet over your toilet that you once posted. She’s been searching for month’s for it and if it’s something you bought (on not made), I want to buy it for her for Christmas. Where did you get it?
Love the site. Could you tell me how you did the wood wall in your son’s bedroom?
I loved the magnetic vintage brooches. What type of magnet did you use. i could not see it in the picture. Also, where can I find them. Agree the ones in the craft stores are not good for the heavy brooches.
Thanks for your help. Helen
Where did you get that large storage unit in your dining room? I LOVE it!
Hi Erin, I found it at a local furniture store (Art Van) a couple of years ago. I hope that helps. Good luck!
Is it considered dining room furniture? Or a bookcase?
Hi! Love your site! Could you give me some info on the bedding and rug in your son’s room? Would be perfect for my son’s room as well! Thanks!
I had a question for the door/drawer that you painted black. How long has the color stick to the furniture? Has there been any peeling? I was told it can peel right off a wooden furniture? Just had that as a concern question before I got started on this project.
I adore everything about your blog! So glad I found today! I’m going to pick up at black paint for my back door~I painted it white but with 4 boys and two golden retrievers it gets really dirty really quick lol.
So many great ideas! I found a couple of your pictures on Pinterest and then spent an hour browsing your site
I was hoping you could tell me where you got the candle holders that are on your Milk Paint Dresser. I’ve been obsessing over them for weeks!
Hi Lindsey! First of all, welcome! Glad you enjoyed your time here.
I found the candlesticks at Kohls for $20. Unfortunately, I’ve had them a couple of years.
I hope you can find them or something similar!
Hi there!! I’m new to your blog, and love your darling house!! You are one talented lady:) I was wondering if you could tell me where you got your light fixture above your dining table? I am in love!!! Thanks so much!!
I understand that Benjamin Moore no longer offers the enamel you suggest. Have you tried any other type that works just as well?
Here you go, Hope! http://www.justagirlblog.com/how-to-paint-furniture-update/
This design is incredible! You certainly know how to keep a reader entertained.
Between your wit and your videos, I was almost moved to start
my own blog (well, almost…HaHa!) Great job.
I really enjoyed what you had to say, and more than that, how you presented it.
Too cool!
