Office Lamp Prettified

by Chris on May 24, 2010

I’ve been on the hunt for just the right lamp for my “in the works” craft room/office.  Luckily, Salvation Army had just the one I was looking for.  Unluckily, it was pretty uhhh…tall.

IMG_1104

I knew I was madly in love with the base, so I threw the $8.00 at the lady (thinking I was paying too much), and ran out of the store.  I, of course, forgot to take a picture of the shade I bought, but it’s this one from Target.  It was #14.99.

41DlILtFimL__AA260_ After buying the perfect hot pink/purple fabric for the shade and covering the base with approximately 12.3 coats of paint and spray gloss, here she be.

IMG_1231

I made the rosettes out of strips of the same fabric and applied them with hot glue.  The same hot glue that I believe gave me 2nd degree burns on my finger.  I got the idea and tutorial from several different sites.  I simply typed in “fabric rosettes”, and the information came pouring at me.

I purchased a bundle of these flowers for $5.00 at Hobby Lobby and stuck them in a small bowl with some iridescent rocks I already had.  Since this is essentially my room, I’m taking advantage of making it a little more girly.  I’m LOVING it.IMG_1215

It’s certainly not a finished room, but it’s getting there.  Until then, I’ll just stare at my new lamp.  And the 3cm blister on my finger.

That's beautiful! I need to redo some of our lamps. Love it!

Maggie May 24, 2010 at 4:53 am

lovely! i want to do this for my daughter's room.

try hand sewing the flowers. for me, it's less painful (unless you stick yourself), faster and doesn't leave hot glue strings.

LOVE! I mean, really really LOVE!! Too funny that you posted this today – I have been on Etsy much of the weekend devising my own plans for all of the wonderful fabric flower items I keep coming across. Have you seen this seller's stuff? http://www.etsy.com/shop/Frippelous I have big plans for the wreath and the ligthed flower strand in my daughter's "big girl" room. And now she just might have to have a lamp to match. Thank you – you are amazing!

I LOVE that lamp and I want one for my very own.

jen May 24, 2010 at 6:04 am

WOW.
I wish I wasn't creatively tapped out. Maybe it's all these kids running around, monopolizing all my free time and all my energy.
I'll try a project again in, oh 5 years?

Sparrow's Nest May 24, 2010 at 6:37 am

SO diggin' it! Especially the rosettes. Got to watch that hot glue though…it'll getcha every time!

Jen M May 24, 2010 at 9:21 am

When I started reading your post I thought it would be another typical lamp makeover – spray paint the base and put a linen shade on it or something. When I scrolled down and saw the finished lamp I gasped in delight – it's absolutely beautiful! I love the colour, proportions, fabric and the roses. Sweet perefection!

I so love this lamp! It's gorgeous! Just as soon as a know a bed bug won't make his home into one of those rosettes, I'll have to make myself one. (Sorry…Im obsessed and can't seem to type one thought without it including the words bed and bug in the sentence.) I love the girly yet sophisticated feel!

I love what you did with the lamp shade! It's lovely:)

Emily S. October 20, 2011 at 2:32 pm

I love the lamp, but I also noticed the framed peg board material in the background. That would be GREAT for a crafting area or even as a jewelry/accessory holder. Did you just repurpose a frame and nail peg board material to the back? That might even be a fun way to hang belts in a closet…

Becca January 29, 2012 at 5:27 pm

You did a fantastic job on that shade! Can I ask you what type of fabric you used? I picked up a couple of lamps on clearance recently. I love the height of the base and the shape of the shade, but the fabric is awful! I found this post on Pinterest when I searched “recover lamp shade.” I’ve never redone a lampshade before, so any pointers you could share would be appreciated!

katie@tulsadetails August 12, 2012 at 7:00 pm

I saw this on Pinterest and I love this idea! I am going to try to do the same thing in my baby’s room. Do you happen to know what kind of paint you used for the lampshade?

Thank you!! Katie
