I was trying to come up with some fancy way to say this, but I thought you should know that I will be stepping away from running monthly ad spots on my blog. At this point, you may have one of the following reactions:
- That’s ridiculous. Who would turn money down?
- That’s a shame, dummy. I was hoping you could help me out with my business.
- Huh? You run ad spots on this blog?
- I need a pretty picture here. I’m not reading anything you’re saying anyway.
It’s been a decision in the making for several months, and I finally made up my mind. I think. Basically, it’s a lot of work. For the money I’m charging (or am not charging) it just takes up too much time.
The good news? I don’t believe it’ll be permanent. I really like to help businesses out throughout the holidays, so maybe I’ll offer it then? A month-to-month basis just isn’t the best business decision for me right now.
I know. I just said “business decision” and “me” in the same sentence. Who am I kidding?Come back tomorrow for SaS Day!

Thanks for the pretty picture as a distraction – I needed it (and I pinned it). 🙂
Chris says
Ha! You’re welcome! 🙂
Heather says
I’m glad you’ve made that decision. I read your blog to read your blogs. Since you began having advertisers I haven’t been so keen to stop by. I hope you don’t mind my saying so. It’s a compliment, really.
Keep up the good work. 🙂
Chris says
Oh Heather, that makes me sad to hear that. I couldn’t imagine not reading a blog simply because they have advertising on it. I just figure everyone needs compensation for the amount of time a good blog requires. If it helps you understand, my blog runs almost solely on the money I make from it. It kind of pays for itself in a way. Perhaps other bloggers do the same? Regardless, I’m glad you’ll be reading more often! I hope I don’t lose you if I go back to ads someday. That would be a shame, really. 🙂

I’m pretty sure that you started the advertising to justify the new camera. You got the camera…so now you can move on and just have fun. Love your blog. I steal lots of great ideas from you and SAS.
Southern Gal says
The third one was my reaction. I don’t pay attention to the ads anyway. Sorry. I’m here for the pretty pictures.
Chris says
Don’t be sorry, Southern Gal! I think we’re all in this for the pretty pictures! 🙂
Kristen @ More Than Mulberries says
I’m so confused. (well I am on Rx meds due to this nasty strep throat…so maybe that’s making me not understand….)
Chris says
I knew I should have written it in crayon for you! I’m not doing monthly ad sponsors anymore. You know, the little squares in the top left corner. Stay with me, woman. And get better! Strep throat in June?!! Poor thing.
Brandi @ Frugal Farmhouse says
Yeah for sanity! Decisions that make life easier are always the right decision 🙂
Chris says
A-to the-men, Brandi! Sanity is always a good thing, eh? 🙂

Have you thought about BlogHer or FM? It’s much less work than having to deal with pricing yourself accordingly and being responsible for billing.
Honestly, I’m on the other side of the coin as most of the previous comments. You very obviously work your ass off and you should be paid. I don’t think anyone should make you feel poorly about that, especially since as readers, they are the beneficiaries of YOUR hard work. I think sometimes people forget that.
Chris says
Thank you for saying that, Michelle! You’re right–on all accounts. Fm…I’ll have to look into that one!
Michele Trovato says
Either way, your blog rocks!
Erin @ Two Story Cottage says
Well, there are no rules in blogging {gasp} so do whatever works for you! I’m a rule follower – I know these things. 🙂
Chris says
I’m a rule follower too! I think that’s my problem! 🙂
Dasi says
You have a great blog, with ads or without. It’s your blog, your decision, we’re just guests at your home.
Chris says
You”re too kind, Dasi, but thank you!!

I kinda ignore ads for the most part, but I will say that the only time I quit reading a blog over the ads is when it starts taking over the content, and slowing down page load time. Unfortunately this happens more and more, the bigger a blog gets the more blinky ads…I understand the reasons behind “monetizing”, but I can’t stand to sit for 10 minutes waiting for all the pretty pictures to load. 🙂 I’m a fickle blog hussy, I guess.
