Christmas Porch

by Chris on December 20, 2013

We finally had our first snow day of the school year. I say finally because in one month, we’ve had 25 inches of snow. Needless to say, I was ready. This gave me some extra time to actually get outside and photograph our front porch. I impaled my ankle with some ice, and I froze my fingers to the bone. This is what I do for you.

It’s quite the classic house, so I keep it pretty standard. As much greenery as I can gather and some red accents to catch attention from the road.

I have always made my own winter urns, but I wanted some extra height this year. I was determined to find some birch branches for free, but it just wasn’t happening. I spent $16 on some at a local garden center. Not bad, but I was really hoping for free.

The rest is from my backyard. If you follow along on Instagram, you know that can be a pretty walk. And a cold one. I don’t know what’s in there. I just grabbed lots of clippings from every tree and plugged them in as I saw fit.

I’m loving how natural they look. More importantly, I’m loving how inexpensive they were. One of the perks of being buried in snow, I guess.

Winter entry

I’ll have to come back to show the whole shot of the Christmas house, I guess. The icy conditions were not on my side today. Off to ice (ironic) my ankle.

Hope your ankle gets better! There’s nothing like classic red and real greenery. I laughed about the birch. I had complained about not finding any and I actually had family from up north that took the time to cut down a small tree, varnish the ends, and send it to me. I couldn’t believe it when it arrived. Speaking of which, I owe them!

There is nothing better than fresh natural greenery for Christmas decor. Love your porch! This look is Christmas.

It is BEAUTIFUL. I have seen some beautiful birch branch arrangements and we don’t have any here either (California). I couldn’t even find them in the store. I love the rest of it too.. The wreath is gorgeous.
