Christmas Garland

by Chris on December 15, 2011

I did something a little differently this year. I decided to forego all of my smaller decorations throughout the house and focus solely on greenery. Oh Mylanta, what a breath of fresh air that has been! Christmas garland staircase

I’ll have to show you what that meant for me next week, but here’s just a sampling. I wanted to bring the natural colors from the Christmas tree into the foyer.

However, since the foyer is lighter, I decided to throw some peacock feathers in there. My mom lives in town by a farmer who owns a peacock farm. How cool, right? She picked up a bunch of peacock feathers for me some time ago. And yes, she’s one of those people who would walk up to a house and ask if she could take some cuttings from their wildflowers. And yes, I was the one (still am!) who was hiding on the floor of our car.

Can you tell I’m a fan of feathers? Can’t get enough of them, and they’re such an inexpensive way to spruce up greenery.

So what do you see when you walk in the front door? You know…all two of you? Let’s just say if Publisher’s Clearing House ever comes to visit me, they’ll have a nice entry to film.

And of course…the night shot. Gosh, I wish cameras captured the beauty of this thing. Guess you’ll just have to trust me on this one.

Your garland is beautiful! I love the peacock feathers. I put some on my porch this year in honor of the peacocks on the farm across the road.

Chris December 15, 2011 at 6:43 pm

Lucky girl, Virginia! Free peacock feathers for life! Thank you!

susie harris December 15, 2011 at 12:44 am

I love it Chris! If I lived a bit closer, I’d be #3 iver to visit :)

Ha! Great comment, Susie! Thank you.

dayle December 15, 2011 at 2:45 am

Love this. My sis has very similar colors in her tree. So calming.

Chris December 15, 2011 at 6:42 pm

Thank you, Dayle! It was a little different direction for me, so I’m glad it worked out. :)

Kathy December 15, 2011 at 4:07 am

WOW. So georgous. Peacock feathers never would have occured to me. Now I really really want some ;) Are they only inexpensive if you live near a farm and are very gutsy?

Shannon at madiganmade December 15, 2011 at 5:59 am

Oh my! Simple and yet so many details. Love it! (and the feathers are a great touch)

Chris December 15, 2011 at 6:41 pm

Thank you, Shannon! I love simple (but not boring)–glad I hit the mark. :) Thanks again!

Chris December 15, 2011 at 6:40 pm

Agreed, Kellie. One of my “go to” decorations for Christmas. It’s such a traditional decor, eh? Thank you!

Anngela December 15, 2011 at 11:43 am

I LOVE this! Garland and lights are truly one of the most beautiful Christmas decorations ever and I agree that photos never do it justice. :) I love that you used peacock feathers–I have a small obsession with these beauties; check out this peacock ornament I just did a tutorial for! :)

Holy cow, Angela. That peacock ornament is amazing! I’m so glad you shared it! LOVE! Thank you!

Danielle December 15, 2011 at 12:21 pm

I simply adore the ribbon for attachment to the banister. I would have been using Command hooks or something, but the ribbon looks so simple, but so very elegant! Beautiful touch.

Chris December 15, 2011 at 6:36 pm

And it was so easy. Hold it up, tie it on. Done. :) Thank you!

Brittny Hemphill December 15, 2011 at 12:36 pm

I wish we were best friends. And neighbors. And had known each other for 20 years. Why? Because I want you to come pretty my house. I can’t decorate to save my life!!!!!! I can find pretty pictures of what I want my house to look like, but doing it? Let’s just say it looks like I was forced to do it blindfolded and all I was given were broken toys and craft supplies for a 2 year old. Awful. Looks gorgeous!!!

Chris December 15, 2011 at 6:36 pm

Hey, I could always use a new best friend, Brittny! Especially one that would like me to help them decorate! Sounds like a match made in heaven. Thank you for your sweet comment.

Lauren Clark December 15, 2011 at 5:17 pm

It looks stunning! Love the peacock feathers throughout. Jealous of the staircase – such a great spot to take advantage of and decorate this time of year.

Chris December 15, 2011 at 6:35 pm

It doesn’t go unappreciated, Lauren. :) I do love to decorate it! Thank you!!

Christina @ Christina's Adventures December 15, 2011 at 7:33 pm

Thanks so much, Karah! Merry Christmas!

Janice December 17, 2011 at 9:55 am

I love how you incorporated the peacock feathers! I work at a flower shop and add them to arrangements all the time. Your entry way is gorgeous!

Erin @ Two Story Cottage December 17, 2011 at 11:27 pm

Just beautiful, Chris. Stunning, really. My garland just makes me mad. This is our first year with a staircase to decorate and I think I bit off more than I can chew! Good looking garland takes some practice…. maybe I’ll go mess with mine some more. No peacocks around here unfortunately…

Amanda Eck December 19, 2011 at 4:48 pm

wow! this is by far the prettiest garland I’ve seen in blogland. Great job!!

Kelly December 20, 2011 at 11:44 am

Oh I love your banniser on how it is decorated. Especially love the peacock feathers!

Eliesa December 20, 2011 at 8:18 pm

Those peacock feathers are gorgeous! As an unintended collector of peacock stuff (I really didn’t mean to start buying a bunch of peacock stuff, but the colors are amazing and the collection kept growing) I am jealous of your free peacock feathers for life deal. I need a friend with a peacock!

Chris December 21, 2011 at 12:17 pm

Ha! I have a feeling that peacock wouldn’t have too many feathers left. :) They’re just such beautiful colors, aren’t they?

Brittany December 23, 2011 at 10:16 am

Beautiful! Merry Christmas!

Lila Jane September 28, 2012 at 11:20 pm

I’m finding this a year later as I look for inspiration for my own decorations this year. Can you tell me how I might find those grapes — they appear to be the perfect color for my decor. Nice work!

Chris September 29, 2012 at 3:06 pm

Thank you, Lila Jane! I believe I found them at Hobby Lobby or Michaels! I imagine they’ll have something similar this year. Good luck!
