How to Install a Pallet Wall {Part 1}

Thanks sooo much for the supportive response to my son’s when will this room be done still unfinished room! It’s by no means a difficult project to take on, but I wouldn’t necessarily say it’s the quickest—unless you have no kids and no job, and a husband with no kids and no job. Believe me when I say the internet (Pinterest, anyone?) provided lots of inspiration for this wall. However, … [Read more...]

Woven Memo Board

I’m getting there. The finishing touches of my son’s room are being put into place, and I should be finished this week. One of those finishing touches is a burlap memo board I spotted on Jones Design Company. I knew this room was the perfect spot for it, so I went to work. Emily really gives a fantastic tutorial on it, so I’ll spare you the same ol’ show. I cut the strips in three inch … [Read more...]

Sweater Wreath

It’s no secret that I’m a fan of texture. So…I decided to buy a few sweaters at Salvation Army last week to make some things with. Project #1? A wreath. I used a straw wreath that I had on hand, but I would recommend a foam one if you have the choice. Straw worked fine, but the foam would offer a little more structure for you. The sweater was $3.99. It’s the price I’m willing to pay for … [Read more...]

Fish Scale Art

A  few weeks ago, I guest posted for Jen at Tatertots and Jello. I showed how to make this project, and I thought you might want to see it too. You know, ‘cause so many of you read my blog that don’t read Jen’s. Joking aside, I thought you might enjoy. For those of you who don’t know me, you should know that I don’t like to spend money. That doesn’t mean I don’t spend money. I just don’t like … [Read more...]

Tablecloth Curtains?

Yes. Yes, you can. Remember when I put out the plea for the matching tablecloth that I purchased for $12.00? Well, here's why. It wasn't for two tables. :) I did not want to sew these, but it was a must. In order for them to hang the way I wanted, nothing else was going to work. These are in the most visible room of our house, so I needed to step it up. Just a notch. So, I started by … [Read more...]

Pallet Preview

This weekend, my husband and I started in on Phase 1 of what will probably be a 50 12-phase project. He is doing a LOT more work than I let on he’d be doing, and he’s been such a trooper about it.  So here’s your sneak peek. I wouldn’t get too excited just yet. I have a feeling this project is going to take us quite a while, but it let’s you know what’s going on in JaG’s garage, I … [Read more...]

Tile Tray

Several months ago, I bought a couple of these little wooden trays at Target for $2.50. Gotta love their little “dollar” section. Several months before that, I had purchased this mosaic tile from Home Depot for $4.99. I thought it was pretty. That was my only motivation behind the purchase. I don’t necessarily recommend that. I’ve never tiled anything before, so I’ll  admit now that … [Read more...]

Wood Coasters

Alright, so I like to make coasters. They’re easy, and everybody needs them.  Since we had a new neighbor move in last month, and we’ve got another one moving in next month, there’s no harm in having these around. Right? So…I did what any normal, self-respecting blogger does, and I used free items from a store that rhymes with foam repo. I was scavenging looking around the flooring department, … [Read more...]

Alack! Alack!

That’s a little ode to Romeo and Juliet for ya. Again with having to explain the titles. Guess I’d better not quit my day job. Back to the title…I bought Ikea’s Lack shelves (noooowwww you get it) several months ago, and I finally got hubby to hang them up.   My husband has no comprehension of “good light” and “prime picture time”, so he decided to hang these at night. Great. Nothing my … [Read more...]

A New Colorful Table

You know I love my neutrals. You know neutrals are my love. You know that I can break out into hives at the thought of too much color. Until now. So this table has decorated my landing for a couple of years. There’s some color there, right? I love it, but I needed the narrow console to go in the guest bedroom. Stay with me here. It gets confusing. I took the table above off the landing … [Read more...]

Ceiling Fan, Be Gone!

I believe I’ve told you before that I’m not a fan of ceiling fans. Get it? Fan of a fan? I also believe that when I told you that, I used the same joke. Never gets old, people. It’s not that I think all ceiling fans are ugly or that they’re not needed in some situations. They’re just not. for. me. I had this fan installed when we built this house for our guestroom, and I’ve hated since the … [Read more...]

Just a little 4th

Every year, I pull out my trusty American flag for some Independence Day decor. I love it, and it certainly makes a statement.  Two years ago (yep-two years), I bought some 4th of July fabric to coordinate within the room. Well, in that two year procrastination-fest, I figured out how to make pillows without actually sewing them.  Now that I’m a no-sewer (that reads so-er, not … [Read more...]

I Sewed Something

Sewing Supplies

Yes, I've been away for a few days. Time gets away from ya when you're having fun, I guess. However, things slowed down just long enough for me to once again remind myself how much I suck at sewing. I can do many things. Sewing is not one of them. It all started with a simple pocket calendar. My days are filling up way too fast, and I wanted something to bring with me that would help when … [Read more...]

DIY Bookshelves

Disclaimer: This is a long post. With a lot of pictures. I venture to say it’s taking me longer to get this post around than it was to actually do the project. With the cabinet finally finished, I realized that my daughter really needed some more room for her books. I didn’t want to fill that pretty thing with all books, so I had to come up with something. So here’s the something. I … [Read more...]

The Art of the Toilet Paper Roll

Ahhhh….the master bedroom. It has eluded me for years, and I’m still trying to tackle it. It all comes down to one final element—art above our bed. I didn’t want to spend any much money; I was dealing with some difficult dimensions, and I wanted it to be VERY simple. How’s that for easy? Here was my plan of attack--toilet paper or paper towel rolls. I tried using some wrapping paper rolls, but … [Read more...]
