Lowe’s Spring Refresh: How ’bout I come over?

boston-snow.jpg

Soooo I haven’t been posting much lately (more on that later), but when Lowe’s approached me about helping spruce up someone’s home, I was on it. In case you didn’t notice, we had a particularly difficult winter this year. ~~Oh. MY.~~ {source} In my state, we have what is called “Lake Effect Snow”, and we definitely experienced that this year. Crazy, right? Well, luckily we are finally … [Read more...]

Backyard Renovation

patio-before.jpg

It alllll started with a Homecoming dance. My son came home and said, “Hey, I told a bunch of my friends they could come over after the Homecoming dance for a bonfire!” Unbeknownst to me, a bunch means 15. And a bonfire means coming over for dinner and pictures before. Here is said fire pit. We have a lot of yard, so we use it to burn brush, Christmas trees, etc. We’ll have neighbor kids … [Read more...]

Fall Porch

fallhouse1_thumb.jpg

My favorite outdoor decorations for fall are mums. 1. They were my dad’s favorite flower. 2. I love how dense the fall colors are in them. Since I need a strong color on my porch, they are a perfect solution. I think the only tricky part about these things is finding mums that are in bloom at the same time. I’m waiting (not so patiently) for the bottom mum to bloom before the other mums … [Read more...]

Window Box Update {Summer Window Box}

windowbox_thumb.jpg

With the change of seasons, I planted some new flowers in the window boxes the other day. Believe me, I mourned the summer flowers as I yanked them out. Let me clarify—as I had my husband yank them out. My muscles—or lack thereof—were just not enough. We started out with this. Keep in mind I got a late start, so I was pretty worried that I wouldn't get a large bloom time. Very pretty, … [Read more...]

Kirklandsoutdoor_thumb.jpg

Wow. Thank you so much for all your help/advice/guidance with my sectional woes the other day. Luckily, I believe this story has a happy ending! I believe I have found “the one”. I’ll get back soon when I’m sure. I don’t do a ton of giveaways because I want to make sure that you’re getting something good when I do. Well, today you’re getting something good. I have shopped at Kirkland’s for … [Read more...]

Landscaping 101

stoneretainingwall_thumb.jpg

Some big things are happening outside, and I thought I’d get you up to speed. This time last year, I left you with this. We were once again doing the landscaping ourselves. Well, since this was our second time attacking this slope, we did hire a couple of teenagers to help us. And then? That’s the way it stayed. For a YEAR. A couple of months ago, as we watched some of our … [Read more...]

Porch Urns

IMG_1777_thumb.jpg

I’ve been on the hunt for porch planters for two summers now. Because our house sits off the road a bit, I knew I wanted something tall—something substantial. I also knew that that they needed to be tall, but not too wide. That’s an easy find, right? Two. summers. later. I went to Lowes, and they had something close. Tall, but too wide. Home Depot? Narrow, but not tall enough. Grrr. These … [Read more...]

Landscaping Progress

taz.jpg

I’m not sure if you’ve heard, but I don’t have to go to work for the next three months. What that means is that for the first time in forever, it is Sunday night, and I’m not getting outfits ready for the week. I’m also not packing lunches. Oh! And I’m not having a nightmare that I’ve shown up to work naked. That’s normal, right? While we celebrated our new summer freedom most of the weekend, … [Read more...]

Landscaping: JaG Style

IMG_8684_thumb.jpg

I’m not gonna lie. I love my house. While I definitely have complaints about how much work we have to do because my husband we wanted to live on a large piece of land, I do love how it looks when that work is finally complete. Well, it’s never complete…you know what I mean. Because my husband is so cheap we wanted to save money, we put in the entire yard and landscaping by ourselves. With a … [Read more...]
