Tweaked Table

Aside from working, planning for Haven, going to softball games, wrestling meets, blah, blah, blah…I’ve been trying to get our living room updated a bit. After finally finding the sectional, it just seemed like such a blank space behind it. It needed something. I quickly found the perfect table (that never happens). It’s the Safavieh Simon Natural Table. It was the perfect size, and I … [Read more...]

Sectional Search

So my living room is suffering. After we built the entertainment console, it was obvious we needed some new chairs to flank it. We found the perfect ones, had them covered, and we were good to go! I’m slowly finding some art for the room (don’t ask about the mirror I missed out on at Joss and Main—SO bummed), and it’s starting to finally come together. Except. for. THIS. This is what … [Read more...]

Feature Friday

Hey hey! Welcome back to the first installment of the second half of Feature Friday! Make sense? If you’ve been with me for a while, you know that Feature Friday has been around for a while. I stepped away from it for a minute, but I miss it. And I miss highlighting readers. So it’s back! And it’s goooood. If there’s a feature I love, it’s one who is a crazy visionary and one who says, “I … [Read more...]

The Must List: Perfectly Imperfect

I call her “Southern Shaunna” (she doesn’t know that, by the way) ‘cause she has THEE most endearing accent you’ll ever hear. However, she is so much more than that. She is my furniture painting idol (ask me how many times I’ve watched her videos—it’s not natural), and she could very well be one of the nicest people I’ve ever met. What a treat to have her here! Hey folks! I'm Shaunna, and I … [Read more...]

Painted Headboard

I’ve shared quite a few painting projects here, but I tried a new paint on this one. I thought I’d walk you through the “ugly” steps of painting. You don’t have to have a paint booth, and you certainly don’t have to have a fancy spray gun (although, they are nice to have). The love of my life has become difficult to find and is essentially not being made anymore. Because of that, I thought it … [Read more...]

A New Table

I decided to spruce up my living room just a bit, and it started with the curtains I made. It gave me a color base for the direction I wanted to go in, and I’ve been bouncing off that for everything else. The next step? Some new accent pieces. I found this table a few weeks ago, and I knew it was meant to be.  Sure is pretty, eh? It’s the Vance Accent Table, and I found it here. I had a 25% … [Read more...]

Painting Tables

That’s a reference to waiting tables. However, any joke that has to be explained is not a good joke. I know. Moving on… I get a lot of questions about painting furniture. So, when I actually remember to take pictures of the process, I like to post on it. The console table got a makeover recently, and I’m here to show you how it was done. I will forewarn you now. There are a LOT of pictures. … [Read more...]

Show and Share Day

Adri sent me an e-mail the other day (LOVE when that happens) showing me a project that her and her husband had taken on. In case you don’t remember Adri, perhaps this will refresh your memory? Be still. My heart. As a teacher, don’t think I haven’t tried to bribe my librarians for one of these things. Still on the hunt. I will prevail. I digress…wanna see what they’ve been up to … [Read more...]

The Cabinet is D-O-N-E

Okay. So it’s not completely done. I lied. But I figure I have held you off on this project for long enough. It just needs to be jewelry-fied, so I guess you can see it by now. Let’s take a look at the before, shall we? I loved everything about it—the glass details, the shape, the storage, etc.  The wood was beautiful, but it was badly beat up. That certainly helped with my decision to … [Read more...]

A Sewing chair and SAS Day

As I said earlier, my shopping goal for Ikea included items for my craft room. Something I knew I wanted? A new sewing chair. A sewing chair that isn’t meant for sewing. It’s just a chair. That I’ll sew in. While Ikea had the chair I wanted, they didn’t offer the slipcover that I was looking for. Our last stop of the day was to Marshall’s, and it wasn’t even on our shopping radar. The chair … [Read more...]

Ok. The Craft Room

I spent forEVer looking for a picture of my den “before”, but I could only find a couple of isolated shots. It all started with this desk.   I loved it, but it became useless once we purchased our laptop. Once we sold it, I knew exactly what I wanted. A craftroom. Scratch that—I wanted an obnoxiously girly space just for me that no one could ruin with toys or camouflage gear. It … [Read more...]

In Media Res

My students try to tell me that they will never use some of the Shakespearean terms that we talk about in class. There. I just proved them wrong.  That’s where we’re at, however. In the middle of things. The good news is that we went and picked up our new family member this weekend. Because I think Craigslist pictures are horrible, I thought I’d take some to show it off to you. … [Read more...]

The Story of a China Cabinet

If you’ve been following me on Facebook or Twitter, you know that there’s been an on-going saga involving a china cabinet--otherwise known as a pain in my bahoony.  It all started with my daughter’s room. She had two pieces of furniture against one wall, and it was just taking up too much room. It came to me that I wanted to condense those pieces into something smaller. What I didn’t know … [Read more...]

A Dresser Finds a New Life

pink peonies

In an effort to transform my office into my craft room, I knew it was vital to find some good storage. Unfortunately, my budget didn’t allow me to build this. From my Feathered Nest  However, this little beauty was definitely in my budget. Okay, so maybe she’s not quite a beauty (yet), but at $23.00, I couldn’t resist buying it. Like the “handle” on the right side?   As soon as I got it … [Read more...]
