Mudroom Cubbies

Winter in Michigan requires a LOT of gear. And all that stuff inevitably gets piled up in the mudroom. I had these cabinets custom built a couple of years ago, and they've been a game-changer. However, the measurements of the cubbies were impossible to find baskets or bins to place in there. And I mean impossible. So this is how it has looked for way too long. Enter stage right: Target. Of … [Read more...]

Drawer Fabric Liners

Being snowed in a for a couple of days always/sometimes gives me the urge to organize. I decided to attack the dining room buffet this weekend. It wasn't necessarily in bad shape, but it definitely needed a little face lift. I was rearranging dishes and realized the drawers needed something. I had some left over fabric from the reupholstered chair I worked on, so I thought this would be a good … [Read more...]

One Bed, Three Looks

Years ago (I've been blogging that long?), I talked about my fickleness when it comes to bedding. I think it's a rather simple change-up, and since Michigan goes from cold to hot and back to cold again, I need it for the changing seasons. Ya know--cold and hot. I purchased an ivory velvet duvet set from Pottery Barn, and I've loved it. It's a perfect wintery backdrop for accessories (hello, … [Read more...]

Boy’s Room Resource {Better Homes and Gardens Bedroom}

How do you write a post saying, “Hey look! I was in a magazine!” without it sounding like, “Hey look! I was in a magazine!” I hadn't planned on writing it at all, but then I received droves (love that word) of e-mails and messages asking about resources for it. Needless to say, my 15 minutes of fame are long gone, but I do want to put the shopping resources in one place for you. So … [Read more...]

Decorating with Cornstalks

Is that the truth or what? I l-o-v-e October. Perhaps my favorite month? I’m sure it has a little something to do with my birthday and my anniversary (17 years, yo!), but it’s the combination of fall colors, warm clothing, and doughnuts. Yeah. I have a thing for doughnuts. Something I’m kinda bummed about? I didn’t get any cornstalks for my porch this year. I know. What was I thinking, right? A … [Read more...]

Fall Window Boxes

Before I say anything else, can I just tell you how much fun I’ve had reading your comments on our little birthday quiz? Sarah and I have been sharing responses, and we’re loving them! From your quiz anxiety to “hanging your head in shame” over your results, it’s been very entertaining. Thank you so much for playing along. And yes…we will definitely explain the answers tomorrow when we announce … [Read more...]

Fall Porch

My favorite outdoor decorations for fall are mums. 1. They were my dad’s favorite flower. 2. I love how dense the fall colors are in them. Since I need a strong color on my porch, they are a perfect solution. I think the only tricky part about these things is finding mums that are in bloom at the same time. I’m waiting (not so patiently) for the bottom mum to bloom before the other mums … [Read more...]

Letter on Canvas {GeeZees Canvas}

Sooo I don’t talk about this very much (ever?), but I lost my dad to diabetes over 11 years ago. It was the first loss I had ever experienced, and it was life-changing. My dad wasn’t the most verbally expressive man, but when I graduated from college, he wrote me a letter (two sides!) telling me how much he loved me and how proud of me he was. Needless to say, it is my most prized … [Read more...]

Window Box Update {Summer Window Box}

With the change of seasons, I planted some new flowers in the window boxes the other day. Believe me, I mourned the summer flowers as I yanked them out. Let me clarify—as I had my husband yank them out. My muscles—or lack thereof—were just not enough. We started out with this. Keep in mind I got a late start, so I was pretty worried that I wouldn't get a large bloom time. Very pretty, … [Read more...]

Outdoor Halloween Decorations {Halloween Ideas}

The time has arrived. I started doing some Halloweening inside this week, but some outdoor Halloween ideas have certainly caught my eye. I certainly appreciate some Halloween impact on a house. These are my favorites! I love how simple this is, but the added dimension is such an impact! {Good Housekeeping} So this one is high on my list. Maybe not a vacancy sign, but I love the look. … [Read more...]

Gallery Wall

I’ve been working on some revamps in our mudroom. You know how I love my neutrals, but it was starting to look a little bland. Family pictures all over the house just aren’t my thing. I’d rather have a conversation piece as opposed to clutterey picture frames everywhere. Make sense? Probably not. The space started like this. If you’ll notice, I taped off where the corner boot bench will go. I … [Read more...]

Birthday Sneak Peek

Woah. Busy week. My “little one” turned 10 this week, and she wanted a big birthday party. Greeaaat. After months of planning, way more money than I care to talk about, and a night of 15 houseguests, things are getting back to normal--if normal means having a pile of dishes two feet tall on your countertop. I still have some people here visiting, so I can’t give you the full tour just yet. But I … [Read more...]

Inexpensive Lighting

How’s that for a clever title? It’s a rainy Monday here, and I’m pretty sure I just drove through a tornado to get my daughter to VBS. It’s not normal when tree branches fly in front of your car, is it? Well, this dark and dreary day is the perfect time to talk about lighting. My de-boob-ification is in full swing around here (that sounds weird), so I thought I’d share a couple of resources … [Read more...]

Dining Room Addition

OK. So I’m talkin’ house goals again. I’m in month 6 of the year, and I’m almost there! Not bad. I swore that I was going to eradicate the ugly light disease around here, and I’m a step closer.  So here’s the chandelier in our dining room. Not ugly by any means, but it was never what I wanted. I lived with it. For 8 years. I looked and shopped and  scoured for months. Oh I found a ton of … [Read more...]

The Must List: The Inspired Room

If I ever want to find a beautiful picture, I know exactly where to go. The Inspired Room. Melissa’s blog (and those beautiful photos) have been inspiring me (no pun intended) for years, so it’s a real treat to have her here. Lucky for me us, she’s telling us how she gets inspired! Creating a home that is inspired by great memories is a personal passion of mine. I cannot imagine living in a … [Read more...]
