The Dining Room (said with echoes)

by Chris on July 7, 2010

Let’s take this reveal back to the beginning, shall we?  We were just getting ready to attack it, so I wasn’t particularly concerned with lighting.

It was a green room with black furniture.  It was a pebble in my shoe, a thorn in my side—we didn’t get along well.

Prepare yourself for some pictures ‘cause I’m pretty happy with it.

Oh sure.  It’s not completely finished yet.  I’m looking for a new chandelier (pendant), and I can’t seem to find a vase for the arrangement that works.  It’s temporary.  I need to hem the curtains, but I’m simply too lazy.  Soon enough.

I will say that adding trimwork to any room can make drastic changes. Even without any accessories, it was galaxies better than what it was before!

I’ll come back with some details about the project. For now, I’m simply enjoying the fact that it’s done.  Almost.

Juggling Thoughts @ One Fine Wire July 7, 2010 at 6:58 pm

Kathy R. July 8, 2010 at 3:22 pm

Absolutely beautiful! Can you please come to NJ and decorate my home? :o)

Anonymous July 8, 2010 at 4:37 pm

I actually like like the curtains like that. Maybe it reminds me of the hems on elegant dresses you see and wish you had a reason to wear one. I think a splash of color in the form of a tie on the curtains would be just enough. Just my opinion though.

Dawn Nasakaitis July 8, 2010 at 5:06 pm

Fantastic! You have such great style. You are the blog that I visit at least once a day…if not 2, 3, 18, :)

Did you by chance paint the picture on your wall in the DR? It looks like something fabulous that you would create.

DOEHLER DAYS July 8, 2010 at 6:18 pm

This is beautiful. I want to do wainscoting to my bedroom in a few weeks and I love the height you have it at. Did you also take your base molding off?

Any tips would be greatly appreciated!!!

Katie July 8, 2010 at 9:06 pm

I'm new to your blog, via a friend's blog, but am already in awe and trying to figure out what room I may be able to transform with this idea! I look forward to visiting your blog more often. :)

Unbelievable transformation! You are correct, what an amazing change with a fresh coat of paint and wood trimming. Also great selection of carpet color, very soft and goes very well with the color scheme you selected. Can't wait to see your final product, but looks amazing as it is! Keep it up :)

IF i EVER, I'd love to copy this one, because it is GORGEOUS. Did you make those chairs yourself?? I've been wanting to make parson chairs myself. Would love any advice. Again, CONGRATS!!!! Hi, I absolutely love your dining room. Would you be willing to share where you purchased your art work? Thanks!

Chris November 9, 2011 at 4:40 pm

Hi Robin! Of course. The square birch tree canvas was found at Wal Mart for $25.00. The large, rectangular piece was just a painting I did myself. (Insert nervous giggle here.) I just mixed up some craft paint and made some swirls? Good luck!

Bre January 14, 2012 at 11:00 am

Just came across your blog.. and your dining room transformation is FANTASTIC! I literally gasped because it is SOOO beautiful!! I LOVE board and batten! We just did it in our master bedroom, and I LOVE it just as much as I thought I would.. trying to figure out what other rooms I can add it to now :) check it out… LOVE your dining room!

Tina March 26, 2012 at 1:06 pm

Hi! Your dining room is delicious!! I’m going to be putting up a chair rail in my dining room with grass cloth below it. My dillema is- I’m not sure how high to put the chair rail. I love the heighth of your board and batten. Would you mine telling me how high your ceilings are and the height of the board and batten? I have 10ft ceilings and not sure what the ratio should be. Thanks!

Chris March 26, 2012 at 3:18 pm

Hi Tina! Our ceilings are 8-feet tall (bummer), and we went up about 60 inches. I hope that helps!
