When we first started this very-diy-adventure we call the basement, we knew one thing would be an important decision–the flooring.
We considered the who’s, how’s, and what’s that come with making up our minds.
Who would use it? Adults and kids. Oh, and dogs. Maybe some hamsters? Kind of covered a lot of ground there.
How would the floor be used? Entertaining–and a whole lot of it. From teens to adults, we like having people over. It makes us feel like we have friends.
What did we want it to look like? We were easily in agreement that we wanted wood. Well, we at least wanted it to look like wood.
All the answers we came up with pointed us in the direction of laminate flooring. We had already begun exploring the world of laminate when Pergo reached out with an opportunity to work together. After doing some more research, we felt like that confirmed our decision. Perhaps it was meant to be?
We went to various flooring stores to look at the construction (in other words, the validity) of laminate flooring. The laminate we grew up with is certainly not what you find today, so it took us a minute to dispel that misconception. We were sold.
My favorite part, of course, was deciding on what it was going to look like. Based on the mood board, you can see that we were looking for gray tones. We wanted wide planks, and my husband wanted it to be rustic. But not too rustic. Ya feelin’ me?
We painstakingly narrowed it down to four choices–all of which are gorgeous!
1. Vintage Tobacco Oak–a bit too brown
2. Stonegate Oak–a close second, but perhaps a little too rustic for us (in honesty, too gray for me)
3. Handscraped Manor Hickory–too red
4. Smoked Chestnut–juuuust right
We loved the width of the planks, and the tone of the Smoked Chestnut was exactly what we are looking for. If you’ve been following along on Instagram, you know that we are well into installation, and I can’t wait to show you that process! It was so fast, I almost missed getting pictures of it.
Ok, you twisted my arm. Here’s a sneak peek for you.
I’ll be back soon to show you how easily it went. And then…how gorgeous the completed floor is. I’m in love!
Disclaimer: Pergo generously provided the flooring and accessories for our basement in exchange for an honest review. You will definitely be getting that!
